I've heard "persimmions" are like deer candy. Hope this helps.
We've used pears with great success too.
we have a few persimmon tres around some fields but never saw any deer tracks around them.
A guy we hunt with uses corn 20 yards in front of a homemade treestand and has shot 7 deer out of that stand. So, I would say stay persistent with the corn, try to avoid touching it with your bare hands, or I have heard of lots of people having success with apples. Hope this helps.
It seems you may have to go where the acorns are if you expect to see deer. There is not much hope that deer will leave their acorns in the thick cover to feed on anything out in the open fields. If you find something that works, lease let us all know.
marylandhunter- a few years ago we tried apples didnt touch them but we only have one apple tree so there not used to it.
99exploerer- there are acorns everywhere. but there is a white oak grove in this one spot I think Imight try to set up there
White's are "sweeter" than Reds as far as that goes. So the deer will "favor" them over others.
Good Luck and Good Hunting !
I know one thing bucks like better than acorns... though it is not actually a food.
I know here in Central Texas the Deer and Hogs have been really after the acorns. Under our deer feeders the corn is really piled up and nothing seems to be going to the feeders very much. But with a little time rain and more cold weather the acorns will start to rot and the deer and other game will start going to the feeders alot better.
skippy peanut butter. i thought a guy was pulling my leg but he keep telling me i should try so i did take a paint stirer and just spread it on a tree they love it best bait i ever used they like creamy better than crunchy watch out this will bring alot of racoons too i have had to chase them off my treestand at 5 am not fun they are meaner than they look they actually groul like a dog .
We have about eight coons that on our corn pile one of them is huge
