The answer depends heavily on where you live and the soil type of the area you want to plant. Contact your local Cooperative Extension Agent (County Agent) and they can help you sort through potential forage crops that do well in your area, provide information on soil preparation and fertility as well.

Go with the Beekeeper. Also need to plant later than normal so the crop is maturing in late sept or early oct. It will still be available in mid winter for foraging.
