Q:
When hunting near a bedding area for whitetails, which time of day would be best to hunt it? Morning or Afternoon? I thought it would be afternoon becuase that way I wouldn't startle them on my way in; however, what time do deer start heading back to their bedding areas at night, for fear of spooking them while getting down from my stand?

Is there anyway you can walk around it? Are you bowhunting or gun hunting? With the rut going on the deer sleeping patterns are kind of messed up right now. The bucks are going to be on the go most the time. if you are hunting with a gun this would be a good place to sit all day long. If the groups around you start driving deer and they come to your bedding area you best be there. Don't leave the stand till after dark. Plan ahead when you leave for the night. What I mean on that lets say you saw 15 deer heading west of your stand before dark try heading east to get out of there and come in in the morning the same way you went out the night before. But I would not walk through the heart of their bedding area. GOOD LUCK!!!

Deer sleep at different times of the day. Early morning is usually the best ime, but one can see deer at any time. Ever notice how cow feed at different times? Deer are no different.

I would try to sneak in early moorning. I hit the woods at shooting time. that way if I kick up a buck Ill have a shot. I used to head in an hour early. Prob was I kick up a deer and have to go to stand site and hope it comes back. Its much easier to sneak in when you can see the ground. This time of year deer sleep at any time. i have found them bedded in early morning til late in day. You never know

I wouldn't worry about spooking them heading back to their bedding areas at night, but I would be worried about it while heading in to hunt in the morning.
