Q:
For years my father, my uncle and me, have all hunted in this one location. I usually sit in the back of the property and my father the front and my uncle gets the side. Now I'm not saying anything bad about my uncle, he is a good guy, but his hunting techniques and the way he goes about things are all wrong.
All these years he has set his stand up the same way, over looking the edge of this swamp. Its a pretty good setup. But he can only see two ways, in front of him and to the left, the right is way to thick. But the thing is if he would move is stand up farther he could watch all three areas, but of course, he don't listen.
This year I decided that I would move my stand so that I can catch all the deer that he misses because he cant see them. I located a tree that's about 100 yds to right of him and my stand is at about 14 ft. high through all the thick timber and brush.
Now is this too close? I really don't think it is and if he cant shoot that way any how, I shouldn't be in any risk right

Just so long as he knows you're there, you'll be okay. All hunters in a party should know each other's whereabouts at all times.

You should be fine. The key is to not disrupt travel routes from one stand to the next.
Also make sure he does not object, and you should be O.K.
I would agree with all the statments here so far. Make sure he knows your there. Make sure it doesnt make him mad, just cause he doesnt want to listen doesnt make him wrong. Most of all make sure you dont set up in a travel route or neither of you will have any deer comin past. That can make him an I told you so!
Bowhunting, you're not too close. Otherwise, you're pretty close
Yeah for gun season a hundred yards is a chip shot. I would make sure he knows and is okay with you sitting there. Personally I would have stayed put and hoped that one of these deer he misses stays on the property and would head my way.
100 yards is pretty close with a gun. You should be SAFE as long as you are higher up than he is and he is not taking any shots at low flying deer or geese. Make sure he knows your exact whereabouts and is okay with it. Good luck
It sounds as if he has set up his stand to intercept deer moving from the thick cover and into the swamp or another feeding area. As BuckHunter alluded to you might just disrupt the travel pattern to his stand. I'd talk with Uncle and clear it with him. Sometimes we old farts have learned a thing or two over the years...
gun hunting is pushing the limit of proximity...bow you're fine. Just be careful if you are gun hunting!!!
Just make sure he knows you are there and doesnt accidentally shoot you.
I own 13 acres and have seven stands on the piece of property. from the front to the rear of our property may be three hundred yards, and i have hunted four people on it safely, and we have all seen different deer so ok it with your uncle, do not hunt if wind is wrong(going to mess up his hunt) and know stand locations by heart
