Yes, it is most certainly a good deer cartridge. I personally use a 44mag lever-gun, but that's just me....

i would say yes, it has a lot of knockdown power, and will get the job in thick areas and you can make shot out past 200 yards with some practice.

Absolutely. It would be my number one choice for those big bucks up there.

It's a pretty good calibur for every big game species in North America.

A .30-06 surely isn't overkill for deer, but most would agree anything bigger is beyond what's necessary, even for the biggest deer on the planet. On the other hand, I have a .30-06 deer rifle, and love it for deer of any size, anywhere. Knocks 'em extra dead, if you will. Great for black bear. Do you hunt black bear up there? the old '06 was a very popular deer gun in the old days and even now back in the Green Mountains of VT, where I trace my deer hunting roots. Shooting a deer and a bear in the same week was pretty popular, and you couldn't ask for a better caliber to do it with then or now, there, or up by you.

I think a 30-06 is perfect for any whitetail on the planet, if it doesn't drop it with a good shot, you won't have to track the deer very far....just don't hit a shoulder or it's pretty much destroyed

The only fault of a .30-06 is that it is not really the best for any one thing because it is so good at everything! Hard to go wrong with an '06!

absolutely. you can never go wrong with a .30/06. I hunt in northern Minnesota and use one for deer and bear. it has all the power you'll ever need and is ideal for the thick terrain of the north, this is quite the brush buster for a rifle, and had excellent range. Good choice!

Like they said, it's great. You can really play with the different ammo available for different game, ranges, etc. Good for deer, and the occasional dangerous varmint.
