Bucks make the scrapes, but does will certainly come and leave their calling cards there. Scrapes can be found year round, sort of like dogs peeing on fire hydrants. Much more numerous in the breeding season. Of course bucks make rubs with their antlers, which leaves does out of the picture.

Does will visit the scrapes and leave their own scents.

it's both a warning to other bucks and an invitation to the does. a lot of a scrape is made with the antlers on the side of trees as well as in the limbs. they usually make scrapes on the ground with their hooves or noses. like country raod said, the does will leave a scent on the scrapes when they visit but usually only the receptive ones.

I think it's only bucks. I thought it was done to rub the velvet off their antlers and to mark territory...2 things a doe has no need to do.
