You will get all kinds of opinions here, to me the one you are in. I live in Oklahoma, we have alot of deer but they dont get as big as the deer up north.
IMHO~~Ohio,Iowa,Illnois, Thay have the most P&Y and
B&C deer in the USA.
In all honesty, you didn't ask about trophy potential.
With that in mind, the top "Deer Hunting State" is, without a doubt, TEXAS!
Trophy class deer!?
Antlers only or antlers and body size?
You can find "Muy Grande" bucks in S. Texas that will rival almost anything in the Northern Tier of states, just don't expect the body size! Body heat relates to body mass! The colder the winters, the larger (bodywise) the deer. Antlers are a nutrition, genetics affair and have little to do with body mass!
Wisconsin actually has the most B&C bucks each year...
I'd have to say... TEXAS!!! Like bubba said we've got muy grande bucks in the south that can match any other states bucks, smaller but plentiful deer in central texas, good sized whitetails and mule deer in the west, and pleanty of public land to hunt the east.
Wisconsin produces the most Pope and Young and Booners each year but we also have more hunters than most states. If I were to put 5 of the best in no particular order I would say.....
Deer hunting has become so popular and people are managing deer better than ever so there are many states capaple of producing world class deer. It's hard to pick one best state in my opinion.
Another aspect you need to look at is if you'r a resident or nonresident. For Iowa the deer have big bodies, large racks, and are corn fed. Tags are very reasonably priced and doe tags are cheap, but for a nonresident very hard to get.
