Not really...but I grew up hunting in the Adirondacks, and never really expected to see very much anyway. Just getting out in the woods on opening day is a treat, regardless if you see anything or not.
BioGuy is right. You may have your expections set too high. Seeing other wildlife, squirrels, woodpeckers, etc. does serve to keep your spirits up, as well as seeing deer sign. Seeing a few does should get the adrenalin flowing and seeing a buck should be like winning the lottery, rather than an everyday thing.
I just love gettin out in the woods. seein a deer and gettin a shot is an extra bonus. I had the deer all patterned out last year still didnt get a shot off. This year I have seen no deer. Lots of squirrels and a big moose though! Its a great time!
i love being in the woods and when ever i go to school or work in the past few weeks i think about the wind direction and imagine what direction the deer would be coming from. i hunt in a different area for the gun opener and if you ve ever hunted wisconsin you know it sounds like a war has just started in the woods on opening day,. i get excited knowing a big deer might just be out of sight and working in at anytime when i was younger i got frustrated but now i know deer can literly show up at anytime during the day 2 years ago i shot a doe at 1:30pm had i waited i would've had a shot at the buck right behind her... last year was actully the first opening day i didn't see 1 deer but the second day i shot an 8pt and made those long days in the woods waiting all worth it..
kindof do,when i hear that somebody got one from a direction where i hear shots, but being with friends and family out in the woods and nature,no tv,radio, cell phones and cars driving by is a great hunting trip, the day will come when i get a kill.
It's not so much of not seeing deer in the area. It's more of the road hunters that are keeping them from crossing the road to get to the place I hunt.

no i don't really expect to see any deer on opening day anyway so i'm lucky if i get a shot on a good doe or buck during the whole first week
yeah especially when you hear gun shots around you
of course, thats alway frustrating but dont give up theyll come around eventually.
I don't need to see many, but i expect to see a few!
Sometime ya' get the gold-mine. Some days ya' get the shaft !
A bad day hunting is better than a good day school/work !
i definately agree with BioGuy because every hunt is a treat so don't take it forgranted

Like others said, I don't care if I see anyhting, it would be nice, but it's about being in the outdoors with friends and family that is important.
being out there is important part getting something is just an added bonus. thats the way i look at it
