Q:
I was so excited about the Field and Stream Magazine telling us that we NEED TO HUNT on certain dates, however, October 31st is supposed to be raining here in North Carolina. I am hopeing that it is only a light misty rain because I REALLY want to get out there. So I'm wondering, how much would rain hurt my bow? I know people get out in the rain but how much does that hurt the bow getting it wet? Can't be good for the string or bearings or screws and stuff on it (rust).

A little rain isn't going to hurt your bow. Keep your string waxed. Your bearings should be sealed.

I love how every day that F & S said to hunt is after all the general rifle and archery hunts are over in Idaho. Wonderful knowledge for all poachers in my state.

Usually get surface corrosion formed on nuts and bolts. Can be unsightly. If you let it go you will have to replace them.

After huntin' dry it with a hand towel, and place wax on your string.

Don't forget to wipe down your arrows!

I hunted in the pouring rain this past Saturday and I just dried the bow off as much as possible before putting it in the case for the ride home and kept my arrows in the quiver in the back seat of my truck. When I got home I dried everything really well and left it out in the house for the rest of the day to make sure it was dry. Doing this for years and I've never had a problem.

as long as you don't use fiber string silencers and dry your bow afterwords and maintain your bow you are all in the clear. The fiber string silencers that were once popular slow down your string causing your arrow to fly low.

The rain is a good thing to hunt in! Helps to quiet down your footsteps and the mud is great for seein tracks! Just make sure you wipe down your equpment and dry eveything out when your done. Its what its made for!

just make sure to dry your bow afterwards, and the only thing you will have to worry about is tracking your deer before the blood trail washes away.

I hate to be contradictory, but I take those dates with a grain of salt. The "prime" date is not necessarily the same in Maine as in Florida, for example. In the far south, the rut takes place later in the year. I personally feel like publishing these magical dates is mostly hype that is meant to sell magazines since the dates cannot be applied universally to every state.

Dont be worried about taking that bow out in the rain! If that was the case no one would be able to hunt half the week! If it rains while your out go home and clean in just like you would your rifle when your done with it and its raining! Wax it, Seal it, and Wipe it!
