I would go with the .270. I hear some nasty things about the .308 recoil. The .270 is plenty of gun for most things you will probably hunt.

I've heard just the opposite with the .270 having more kick than the .308...must depend on how the gun is set up. Both are great gun choices though! My personal preference is for the .308.

I have shot both. They were comparable guns, a browning 308 bolt w scope, and a remington 270 bolt w scope. Both accurate and nice to shoot. The 308 has a good amount more punch and recoil. Has a larger bullet grain as well. 270 is a nice easy shooter. Accurate and great range capabilities. All depends what you gonna shoot at with it.

Both are great. I have a Tikka T3 270. i would not trade it for anything. I'm taking it on a moose hunt in 12 days! It hardly kicks at all.

DO NOT get a Remington pump action (at least not a 760) It will kick harder than a 300 win mag. I know this because I had one before I bought my Tikka. It was very innaccurate.

Stick with a bolt with whatever you get and you'll be happy with either a 270 or a 308.

I personally think a 270 is better because it has less kick that a 308. But whatever you like is what you should go with. A 270 is plenty of gun and can bring down a lot of diffrent game with good shot placement.

I'm happy for you that your 760 is good. Maybe mine was a "bad apple" I guess the comparison I have just made mine look bad. But again I am happy for you that you have a good one.

Their capabilities, as far as what you can shoot with them are about the same, as are their recoil. One is not really worse than the other given similar rifles. The .270 is a little faster (eventually) and flatter, but the .308 is a round known for accuracy. I guess I didn't help one bit.

The .308 is often compared ballistically to the 30-06, which we all know is one of the best all-around calibers out there.

It really depends on how flat u want to shoot. The .270 is a great rifle, kicks like any other would. Shoots flatter than the .308. Though it is the minimum for elk in most western states. I have a .270 and i love it for whitetail and mulies. I also have a .270 WSM which I absolutely love. Great knock down still at about 250 yards. I find it to be a little much sometimes with east coast whitetails.I also was told by a few guides that they think its a great caliber for most western game. The .308 is nice also, but i def. prefer the .270.

Both calibers kick about the same. I would say the .308 kicks a little less than the .270. It is going to come down to which one you like best, I chose the .270, my brother chose the .308. The both perform about the same and both kill like it's going out of style.

I think they are both great guns, just keep in mind on how much you you want to pay for the box of bullets. The 270 is cheaper than the 308s.

270 is sweet for those long shots and as for the 308? There is tons of Military 7.62Nato out there and I've used the 308 in High Power Rifle Competition and it's no PUNK! We refer to the 308, 30-06 Short! Both will do you fine, but I believe for bigger game I would prefer the 308 and I would not give it a second thought on using it on Moose with 180's!

Difference between a 308 and the 30-06 is about 150 fps or half the velocity of my bow!

I have a Remington 788 in .308 that lets you know when it goes off, however, my brother in law has a 760 pump in .270 that kicks much worse, on a par with my 7mm Remington Magnum, that kicks like the proverbial mule. I have never been a .270 fan for a multitude of reasons but will always be a devoted .308 fan.

Either one will get the job done. If you check ballistics you will find both calibers are about the same with a slight edge to the .270 with a higher fps which makes it a flatter shooter at longer ranges. i personnally use a REM 700 bdl with 130 gr handloads for deer

I killed deer and elk without any drama for years with a Remington 700 ADL in .308 Win. As for some of the comments above; they obviously have no experience with either. Ammo prices are about the same and the .308 Win may even be a little cheaper. The .270 has more blast and noise and probably a wee bit less recoil with lighter bullets. Gun weight/design and bullet weight have more to do with recoil than caliber in these 2 choices.

I have never had much use for a .270, but that's just me. Both are certainly good deer calibers. The .308 is more versatile in my opinion. the .308 is on a short action and may be a little lighter depending on the rifle brand.

I chose a 7mm Weatherby for a small bore, high velocity caliber. Shoots flatter than a .270 and is capable of using much heavier bullets than a .270.

they are both great calibers. i own both, both remington 700s. i feel that the .308 kicks less than the .270 and they are both flat shooting guns. I shoot them both at 6"x6"x3/8" steel plates at 300 yards and the .308 almost goes all the way through and the .270 just annihilates the steel plates going all the way through and mushrooms the steel. I would say they are very comparable rounds but if i had to pick one for hunting it would be a .270, but i would pick the .308 for target shooting because of cheaper and a larger variety of bullets.

I personally would go with a .308 packs a little more punch, is very accurate and there is plenty of surplus ammo to practice with. Recoils never hurt me even with an old M-14 in 1961 with a metal butt plate. But I really prefer a 30/06.

Both classic rifles... it depends on what and how you hunt. Most people who hunt the timbers and brushlands for deer or elk would prefer the .308. It packs a whollop out to a couple of hundred yards. It is also one of our most accurate cartriges and has won many a 1,000 target championship. Most people who hunt the prairies and open grasslands would prefer the .270. It is significantly faster and really improves your ability to hit running game and its flat shooting speed simplifies holdover and windage on longer shots out to 400 yards. For me, the .308 has less recoil with typical deer loads but it depends on the loading. Both offer tremendous versatility in the bullet size and velocity. New bullets like the Barnes TSX are giving the .308 added life by allowing us to shoot small (e.g. 130g) fast bullets with sufficient penetration to take large deer sized game, approaching the speed advantage of the .270. Both great rifles with great flexibility. You will have to make the choice based on how you intend to use it. Good luck... I am sure you will enjoy your choice... you can't make a bad one with these two.
