Q:
In the spring I will be getting a puppy. I dont know what it will be, but it will be a family dog, and since I am the only one in my house that hunts I am not allowed to use the dog for hunting. So I need to know how to train a dog to find sheds. I figure if i can't take it hunting I can still take it out and have some fun finding antlers. any info on how to train a puppy to find sheds would be very nice. thanks for any help you guys can offer.

Get some sheds and let the dog play with them. Hide and seek, fetch and even chew on them..get very excited when you do this and give the sheds a name and always use this name be it sheds, ball, horns whatever when playing. The dog will then find them naturally if you have taken it to a few strange areas and hide the shed from it then let him find it..It is all about making a game out of it
