I use the same bullet 365 days a year so it's fine tuned to whatever I decide to shoot from critters to deer. I know by second nature just how much of hold over and correct for wind drift for long range. I use Hornady 55 grain Soft Points they are fantastic from busting coyotes to Mule Deer! I've played with everything from 40 grain screaming at almost 4300 fps to thumping 70 grain and I find the 55 works best. My Blackgun has a 1-9 barrel and I have 60 Grain Nosler Partition I'm going to load up for my Granddaughter who will be hitting the field next season. Watch it guys, she is already coming close to out shooting Alex with my pellet gun!
As for my opinion on Barnes varmint grenade? I'll stick to my tack driving load that already puts big holes in Coyotes and easy on the wallet giving me plenty of trigger time!

Introduced in 2007, the Varmint Grenade has rapidly become one of the most popular varmint bullets around. Based on a design Barnes developed for military applications, the hollow-cavity, flat-base bullet features a copper-tin composite core surrounded by a guilding-metal jacket. This extremely accurate bullet enjoys consistently high demand.
The bullet remains intact at ultra-high velocities, while its highly frangible core fragments explosively on impact. Produces instant fragmentation, virtually vaporizing ground squirrels and prairie dogs, even at long range. Expending its energy early, the Varmint Grenade seldom exits large predators like bobcats and coyotes, leaving valuable pelts virtually undamaged.
For 2009, Barnes’ best-selling Varmint Grenade lineup now includes 26-grain bullets for the .204 Ruger, new 30-grain .224” bullets for .22 Hornet firearms, as well as 36-grain .224” bullets, and 50-grain .224” bullets for rifles with 1:10 or faster twists. There’s also a 62-grain .243” Varmint Grenade for 6mm rifles. While these lead-free bullets are environmentally safe, they’re deadly on prairie dogs and other varmints. The unique, instantly frangible core ends worries of ricochets.
Varmint Grenades are sold in 100- and 250-bullet packs. Factory loads are available from Black Hills Ammunition.

I haven't tried them but I like the idea of a highly frangible bullet for varmint hunting. It is getting more difficult every day to find places to shoot a rifle without seeing a house, herd of cattle or something similar in the background. I grew up on the prarie and learned to dislike hunters who didn't care about ricochets because I have seen the dead cattle and bullets in bodies among those who live behind a prairie dog town or a running coyote. I have been shooting very small frangible bullets for this my whole life but these look like the cat's meow and will certainly try some. For now, I am shooting 50g VMAXs at 3450 fps and they seem to disappear on impact.
