When I was just starting it was very helpful to search on youtube to hear what the calls should sound like. They have some very good instructional videos.
Lotsof info on the web. When I started a few years ago Varmint Al's was a good help with good links.
Bevery quiet setup thinking about the wind, good camo and start with a quiet call, the yotes ares sometimes (alot) closer than I think and boom they are there. If after a few minutes of quiet calling you don't see any movement the increase volume as they get closer go down some. You should get calls with different volumes. I started out with cottontail and jackrabbit calls with a mouse squicker. Just last year added a howler etc. I don't use electronic calls, the only reason that I don't have a foxpro is that I am a cheapa@#.
heeaarrrrrr puppy puppy puppy, hereeeee puppy pupy puppy. Imagine what a rabbit would sound like if it was caught in a barb wire fence or the mouth of a dog, they will scream, whine, screach and sometimes all at the same time. It's easy to learn the rabbit in destress call, I start by calling loudly and by cuppiingthe call so i can open and close my cupped hand over the call while calling. this to me better mimmickes the wounded rabbit. waaa waaaa waaa waaaa, weeee weeee weeeee weeee, wwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaa, wwwwwaaaaaaaa, wwwwwwaaaaaaa, weeeeeeeeeeee weeeeeeeeee wwweeeeeeeee - Sorta? lol I call as if the rabbit has just become tangle or injured and is starting to panic then work into a frenzy, after 15-20 mins of this I'll start a dying call where the volume is less and the rabbit sounds to be running out of life- a much softer pleading whine. As stated above listen to the taped recording to get an idea then get out and call away. Good luck.
