Q:
A lot of coyotes have been running around our neighborhood. They've killed at least four cats, a couple deer, and my pet peacock. I've never really had any good shots at them with my gun, so im going to try to call them in. Any good coyote calls that work good to bring em in? Thanks

I think that Johnny Stewart makes a "attractor" called "The Critter" that I've used with GREAT success as well.

The most versatile and least expensive would be a mouth call using a cottontail distress (jackrabbit if you live in the middle of jackrabit country). You don't have to be fussy because if you ever listented to a strangled rabbit, they aren't vocally perfect. You want to scream bloody murder just like they do when a coyote chomps into thier flank. You need to call early morning or evenings if you can. Move into position quietly and be still for about 20 minutes before you blow the call. Don't MOVE after blowing the call. I like to take a buddy or two so we can watch 360 degrees without moving unless you know exactly where they will come from. Get your rifle up right after you call to reduce movement if you see one. They are one of the smartest animals in North America so don't be surprised if they see you before you see them. If you live in snow country, start out at 2:00 AM on a night when there is a full moon with snow. You can see like daylight and they come with reckless abandon.

Depends on if you live in town or not. A meat pile will bring them in. Distressed rabbit calls are a good try. Put some chicken thighs out and squeal a bit. They will come in. They are brave animals. Start gettin rid of them now before they become a huge problem. Cause it wont take long!!

i haven't had much luck with the distress calls, but always seem to get a rise out of them with a howler.
