Q:
Well I Christened the new gun today, got a coyote with my (new to me) Savage 24 in .222/20 ga. I have to say I love this gun. Just perfectly versatile for the "browsing" hunter. Your thoughts?

It's a 24v. And I'm glad I'm not the only one that likes em!

Congrats on making a good doggie and on obtaining a great gun. I've been searching high and low for one of those. I thought that I had found one until upon closer inspection I saw that a previous owner powder coated it. What was he thinking? I sure wish Savage would put them back into production.

I have always wanted one of the Savage Combo guns in any combination of gauge or caliber but like others somehow can never find one in good shape or for a decent price. I remember way back in the sixties a fellow down south showing me one that he owned which had a plastic stock and forearm. This obviously was well before the current rage toward synthetic. I always enjoyed shooting these guns when a friend would be kind enough to loan one for a day or so.

We have three of them, a 24? (don't remember the exact model without digging it out) in .22 magnum over 20 that I used to take my first turkey and a pickup load of squirrels over the years, a 24V in .222 Remington over 20, and a newer 24F12T that I gobbler hunt with each spring. I wouldn't take a farm in Texas for them and would very much like to find a .22LR over .410 that I could afford. You've got a keeper, treasure it. Good shooting.

For those of you that are looking for one, it's a good idea to keep an eye on www.gunbroker.com. They've become quite pricey but if you continue to watch the new auctions consistently you should be able to eventually find what you're looking for for a decent price.
