Q:
So I was out hunting and decided to try and take a grey squirrel tonight, well I made as perfect a shot with my bow as I could have made at about ten yards. This was the first game I have taken with a bow or anything else for that matter. I cooked it up tonight with onion, pepper and rice and it was good but I wanted to see if any of you had a good recipe for the future if I decide to take another. Also, is it ok to eat one thats still a little pink or should it be fully cooked to white, I know some species are supposed to be slightly pink at the center.

ive always been told to not to eat em before the 1st frost and to cook em all the way just incase they have a parisite. we always boil them then flour them up and fry em their pretty good that way
I've been told the same thing; that they have to be cooked all the way through.
We start eat em in August thats when the season begins here in Ky.We first cook em in a preasure cooker until done then we fry em in oil with no breading added. Then make gravy using the left over oil.Bisqits gravy and squirrel hard to beat. You can also take em from the preasure cooker to the grill and add your favorite barbque sause.
it's a very good idea to wait for a couple of hard frosts before hunting them. they can be ridden with worms and fleas. cook them all the way but not to where they are like shoe leather.
Pressure cook until the meat falls off the bone, remove the carcass from the pot and make a white gravy with the broth, take the meat off the bones and put it back into the gravy. Serve with fried or mashed potatoes and biscuits and call me.
personally....would hold off on shooting squirrels and start paying attention and looking for deer.
fried squirrel is always good.
I eat squirrel all the time there very good. What I do IS par boil them for alittle while the I make a batter and roll them in it and fry them. Everyone on my road is always asking me when im getting more Squirrels so I can fry and share with them.
