If you have a lever action, bolt action or single shot you can substitute a .22 CB short in a .22lr chamber. Only use .22lr in semi-autos. The .22 shorts will not feed in a semi-auto. The CB loads have no gunpower in it and from my Marlin 39A its rifle report and power is about the same as a pellet rifle. You are limited to about 50 yards, though. No, this doesn't work with a rifle chambered for .22 magnum.
Yeah you try out a gamo whisper they shoot great and have a noise dampener on the end which makes it extremely quite. It still shoots 1200fps and will drop a squirrel at 50 yards in its tracks

Well yes they are quieter. You can buy a silencer but no need to bb guns are not that loud...
Of course they are. There is no gun powder.
Much quieter but not as effective over 50 yards as a rule.
Why don't you want the rifle report? I've often shot a second squirrel investigating the noise.

Yes, and with airguns out there like the Gamo hunter and new gamo ammunition, you can push 1600 fps!
I agree with oldboot. The cb shorts are silent. But yeah pellet rifles are quieter.

I believe an air rifle is in fact this was proven to be better than a .22 when hunting small game.
Much.
