I have always wanted to start coon hunting, but never have. If I dont have older dogs to start training with, what is the best way to start training, and what kind of gun do I need. . . . Im starting from scratch so give me all of it. thanks amillion.

A .22 will do the job.

well, somebody finally answered! I would just hope you have some experience with coon hunting or it would be a lot to learn on your own. But a guy with a dog he can spend tons of time on: you and the dog can kind of figure it out. Blue tick hounds are supposed to be the best? you can probably tell I am not a coon hunter, just have done it some that's all.

i love coon hunting..a 22 works great and if your shooting in a thick leaved tree use a 12 ga. with small game loads...id get a walker..one thats parents are good hunters and loud...a runt would be cheaper and they get through stuff easier than a big one..at 6 months old start on cats with your pup and then on caged coons..go to coon hunting clubs if there is one and become friends with a guy with good dogs and start hunting urs with his....good luck

I have traped coons for years, I just dont have my dog yet, or know how to train. . . Im geting a blue tic.

bad idea you should have got a walker they are much better than blueticks.i have one and she is a coon hunitng machine. do you have a hunitng light? if you dont get a coon hunters favorite from nite lite. they got everything you need. also carry a old non valuble .22 cause anything can happen coon hunting. good luck!
