i have a .177 pellet gun that is pretty slow and Ive killed squirrels with headshots up to 20 yards.....but if you hit their body then you'll probably lose it, or you'll have to shoot it again
If you are looking to buy a new airgun to pursue the little critter frequently, I would suggest a quality, brand-name gun producing 800-1200fps with regular lead pellets. Benjamin or Gamo are good, readily available choices. Keep in mind that some manufacturers are now advertising two speeds: one with lead and a higher one with some sort of super-pellet (example: 1000 fps w/lead and 1200 fps w/PBA Raptor ammo!!!) ignore the higher number because with its light weight it won't hold that velocity very far. Also if you have neighbors, you should know that they get significantly louder over about 1000fps due to the super-sonic shockwave.

How good of a shot are you? I have killed them with a fairly low FPS at close range.

Almost any it depends on the gun you have and or FPS 177. or .22 it doesn't matter

I red rider bb gun will kill it. You jsut gotta hit it.
Red rider bb gun works great.I use to be great shooting one back in the days.
basicly if you can buy it, it will kill a squirrel, just hit it right.
Depends on caliber and fps. Something 450+ and 177 will do the job. A friend of mine threw a rock at a coon and killed it.
i have killed them with a .177 650fps

I would say minimum of 600 fps .177 and 450 fps .22. just aim for the head even though a heart or lung shoot will kill but it takes a while.
