A slice of apple works pretty good.

You will catch squirrels, not rabbits. Squirrels will go in a trap just to see what it's like, no bait required. If you catch a cat, I suppose the moral thing is to take it to the SPCA. They can neuter it and place it with a RESPONSIBLE pet-owner.

Ive caught about 8 rabbits so far this year in those traps. The only bait that I use is...carrots!

I agree with DanCS... carrots for rabbits, birdseed with corn for squirrels, hot dogs for cats. The hava a heart will let you release without harm if you catch the wrong one.

carrots or lettuce work good for the little bunnies. if you do happen to get a cat have something like a stick with a v on the end so that you can get away if he seems to be a angry one.

DanCS, I bow to your greater experience. I tried trapping a rabbit with apple in my back yard for most of a summer, and gave up after squirrels exhausted my patience. My dog had developed a fondness for rabbit droppings, which I was not pleased with. Later I spotted the rabbit with a bum leg (I assume it was hit by a car), and after that it vanished.
