I would look for a semi auto .22 LR. I have a really old Remington semi auto and I can put squirrels down without a scope up to 75 yds. A .410 would work well to.
I've been using my Ruger 77/22 (bolt) for years and don't have a bad thing to say about it...I love it! Consistent headshots at many distances and solid as a rock.
My uncle killed over 200 squirrels last fall and winter and he uses his browning 16 gauge with number 6or7 loads but you can you whatever gauge you want just have a load that wont blow them to pieces. Also, when the leaves fall he uses his bolt action Marlin 883 .22 mag.
those gamo's sound pretty nice my uncle has one he declared war on squirrells in a somewhat urban area and he said you can't hear a thing. otherwise a plain old used ruger .22 will work fine.
Savage rimfires will outshoot anything that isn't astronomically priced for a rimfire. If you want to spend, here is probably the nicest squirrel gun ever -
The beauty of squirrel hunting is that you can use almost anything. I used to use a 12 ga. exclusively, as that was all I had and it worked fine. Now, if I use a shotgun, a 20 ga. Remington 870 pump is my choice, especially when the trees are as thick as they are now, early in the season. You just can't get an open shot with a rifle around my area (south LA). When I use a .22, it's either my old Nylon 66, a Ruger 10/22, one scoped, one not or a Savage bolt action. My biggest dilemna is deciding which gun I want to use, but they all work and all have advantages and disadvantages. Whatever you wind up with, you'll have a blast hunting the tree rats with it. As time goes by you may want to try another type gun, but just about anything works fine.
ive hunted with 12 guage to .410, pellet guns to 22-250 for squirrels the most fun i have is using a rim fire .17 with a scope thats what i would recomend for a new squirrel gun
look at the rossi single shpt adult combo itll have the shotgun and a .22LR but you domt want a semi automatic ull shoot too many shells and youll have half as many lost squirrels because of quick shotsthe single will help you slow things down and will improve your squirrel game.
I agree with silvrtung. Use the shot gun when the leaves are still on the trees and 22 when theyre all gone. I know a guy who used to put a slug in the shotgun barrel. He'd shoot squirrels with the 22 and if he saw a deer he could take a shot at it. the rossi combos are only 100 bucks at dicks sporting goods right now.

CZ model 452 bolt action in .22LR. Its an absolute tack driver, looks beautiful, and won't break the bank.
I'd definitely go with the savage bolt action in 22lr. you can get them way cheap and they are super accurate.
