I am an adult convert who's been hunting for 12 years now. My Grandpa Pete (whom I never met) was an avid deer hunter, but his son (my own father) was a rabid anti-hunter whose encounters with hunters left him convinced they were vain and bloodthirsty.
Much to my dad's chagrin, I just couldn't keep away from it, and felt drawn to hunting, basically a curious and irresistible urge. I took it up seriously when I was 20 years old.
Of course, it didn't hurt that I grew up on 2,000 acres of South Texas chaparral with plenty of deer when I decided I did want to hunt!
I started hunting small game as soon as possible. Did not start deer hunting until 2 years ago. But I went deer hunting with my dad when I was younger. I'm 16 now.
my dad hunted but now after my first year he ussauly just hunts the opener i geuss he likes farming beeter lol (i've been hunting three years and have shot 4 deer no bucks yet but i'm trying)
I've been huntin' for 47 years. Started out rabbit huntin' with my step-dad, who I saw kill two rabbits seconds apart, with a double-barreled shot gun.
Went squirrel huntin' with his squirrel dog,Ringo.
After he passed away, I started deer huntin' and now that's all I do now, maybe a little squirrel huntin' to get me in the woods to scout for deer ...
Forty years on my own, my dad probably took me maybe 4 to 6 times when I was a kid. He always had something else to do which is probably why I always include my kid on every hunt.
I started going when I was big enough to walk. Started hunting when I was of legal age, 12. I am a fifth generation Idahoan, so hunting was and is a family tradition. Searched the geneology records, and my first ancestors landed with the Winthrop fleet in the 1630's, and I am sure they hunted, so I guess my bloodline has been chasing game around North America for close to 400 years. The 16th Native American in me has been at it for thousands before that, so I guess I have no choice but to hunt.
I was born and raised in the hunting field and my bed room was my Fathers reloading room where he invited his friends and fellow Air Force Shooting Team Members too. They stayed late at night telling stories and planning what they were to do next.
I'll never forget the day my family took a drive to the country on a Sunday afternoon. A nice buck jumped out of the woods and stood next to the road.
As it stood there my mother was saying how beautiful it was and my brothers and sister were oooing and aawing over it. I was no more than five years old sitting in the far back of the station wagon when I screamed out "shoot it" at the top of my lungs. I was lectured all the way home by mom who thought I was some sort of a serial killer. It was the day I learned I was a hunter. I have no clue where that gene comes from. I am so unlike the rest of my family. That was 40 years ago and I'm still screaming "shoot it" when I see a nice buck.
Hunting has been a tradition in my family for years and years. Some of my earliest memories are of waiting for my dad to come home from bow hunting and always thinking, "I wonder if he got one."
I must have been 4 years old, my dad used to take my brother and I with him goose hunting on Marylands Eastern Shore, we were just tagging along, started actually hunting when I was twelve, I am now 25.
I have never been hunting on my on, I have gone with my uncle and one of my dad's old buddies. I got a bow this year in November, and I have been shooting it at least three times a week since then. I am 16 years old and am pumped up to hunting go this fall.
My dad has hunted ever since he got out on his own and could afford it and he is the one that got me hooked. Ever since I was a little kid I was just enamored with all the stories he would tell, the outdoors and wildlife. I went on my first deer hunting trip at 13 and I am 21 now.
I have been hunting about 7 years and I was ask to go with a family member who had/has some property. It was something that I always thought that I would enjoy and I was right. Hopefully I will never miss a season.
