Q:
To all you anti-hunting people. Here is something you should think about. If you actually think about it there are a whole lot more animals killed for one salad than many steaks. Every time all these large harvesters and tractors harvest the vegetables millions of tiny creatures are murdered, chopped up into little pieces and not even utilized such as mice and cute little rabbits, chipmunks, birds, lizards, snakes, and so on. So stop being hypocritical and just starve yourself to death already so you don't harm any more cute little creatures. For humans to survive others must die and you will just have to get used to it. Not even the strictest vegetarians can survive without killing something.

Vegans, even. Vegans rely on non-local food. To support their diet and stay "healthy", they buy food that is shipped in from all over. Big carbon footprint there...

Give the poor devils a break. Look how they have to go through life, agonizing about everything they can't eat. They are more to be pitied than censured.

Just to clarify...I'm not a vegetarian or vegan...I love meat, but I think these types of posts should be avoided...give me a -1 if you don't agree, I really don't care, but they make us look like ignorant idiots.

I can remember doing a presentation in highschool based on a magazine article I read in a hunting magazine. I laid out a persuasive arguement stating all vegetarians were anti-hunters and they were the reason hunters were given a bad reputation. After all was said and done there were no questions, and no arguments against what I was saying. Later that day, I was approached by a girl who said to me, "I have nothing against people who hunt, I could really care less. If you hunt, that's fine, but I don't understand why I'm being blamed for something I don't believe in at all. I just don't like eating meat." What a lesson in humiliation! I felt like an @$$ and to make it worse, I got an "A+" on the presentation. My next presentation was a public appology for giving such a bogus presentation...I think it caught everyone a little off guard, but it was well accepted. I learned a very important lesson with that presentation: "Those who speak without knowing the facts make themselves look like idiots." So far...I haven't observed any exceptions to that rule.

Are insects considered vegetable or meat?

Can't remember the numbers but a certain percentage of insects are allowed in grain. I suppose they can be considered free protein.

Same goes for rat droppings in pepper. Rats love pepper and leave their similar looking calling cards. Not sure what to consider free stool samples.

jsobrien ,the fields doesn't contain as much life as you wish to imagine, takes time even when left fallow.Just because you don't like those people doesn't make it right to overlook the usefulness of FACTS in a statement.Making or repeating derogatory labels or statements only furthers the view, that we're a bunch of ignorant @$$h*!$ that don't have right to or the education to manage the issues in our blogs.People have forget how to distinguish between fact and opinion, the results are extreme views in a effort to alter the discussion to resolve nothing.

He is asserting that millions of creatures live in a cultivated field unlike your fawn that was passing through. Now you may have helped cleanse the gene pool for your area since the fawn was too slow, but then again as you said you where not alert enough or too slow to stop.

More misconceptions. Bordering on ignorance, but I'm trying to avoid offensive talk.

The fawn wasn't too slow. Fawns instinctually sit tight no matter what. They all hide in vegetation invisibly and scent free when they are young while momma is elsewhere. This is part of their survival plan. This is a common occurence, and I also thought it was common knowledge.

Millions of creatures large and small really do live in fields, cultivated or not. Beyond what is killed directly, there is the habitat loss that field imparts. He makes a very valid point based on fact, whether you like it or not.
