Anybody here want to tell me what you're using for a deer rifle. Make, Model, Caliber, Scope, etc. I'm interested in seeing what you guys are using. I'm curious about these things.
I shoot a Marlin 30-30...the model is like a 30AW. and i have a cheap old tasco 3-9X40 scope on top. the rifles nice and accurate. but i'm still saving up for the Ruger M77 Hawkeye in 25-06
Win. Mod. 70 .270 with 2.5-10x 50mm Nikon Monarch. Once in a great while I'll pick up my old Rem. 700ADL 7mm Rem. Mag with a 3-9X 50mm Nikon Buckmaster scope that I killed a lot of deer with in the past. I have a new Savage 7mm-08 with a 2.5-10 50mm Nikon Monarch that I've only shot at the range so far, but will hunt with this fall.
I use a savage model 111 in 30-06, with a nikon buckmasters 3x9x40. I use handloaded 165 grain hornady soft points at about 3100 fps at the muzzle. Is that all you wanted to know?
My primary is a Winchester Model 70 Lightweight Carbine in .250 Savage with a Weaver K3 scope in Warne rings & bases. I bring a back-up in case anything happens to my primary: a Winchester Model 94 lever action with a Williams receiver sight.
Ruger M-77 .257 Roberts, 3-9x 42 Sightron SII and a Weatherby Mark V .30-06 with Leupold 3-9x40 with LRD reticle.
Back-up rifle for either is usually my Rem 700 ADL in .308 Win with a 2-7x Leupold or my Savage 99 in .358 Winchester with Lyman aperture sight. Just depends on where I am hunting
Ruger 77 Ultralight in .257 Roberts with a Nikon Pro Staff 3x9, Remington 788 in .308 Win wearing a Bushnell 3x9, or an Interarms Mk X in 7mm Remington Magnum wearing an elderly Redfield 3x9. What I take depends on what I'm doing and the current mood.
E.J.P. Great cartridge. I'm guessing you load them yourself? I would buy one in a second if i came across one. Not too common anymore. Same with the .257 bob. Though they're a bit more common.
Beekeeper. I stated in the final sentence of my comment that i'm still saving up for the rig! And i'm almost there. I'm looking to pay about 450 for the rifle. And i'm now at 370 something. Birhtday's comin up too!
That seems like a lot of barrel for a .308 Winchester.... I'm not being critical, but the longest I've seen is a 24 inch with 23 inches about optimal for a .308.
Just curious, did the gunsmith recommend that long barrel or did you spec that?
It is a long Barrel, the reason we put that long of a barrel on was not for the added velocity, your right, 24" is really all you need, the reason for the long barrel was to balance the rifle better. The stock I had put on is heavy in the butt, and the extra length in the barrel balances the rifle perfectly!
winchester mod 70. 270 short mag , Nikon 3-9 , winchester 94 big bore . 375 win . Williams peep sight . remington mod 700 243 win. burris 2-7 compact .rem 742 carbine 30-06 Leopold 2-7 compact . ruger #3 375 win. burris 3-9 . and others if i feel the urge to take them out.
I mainly use an old Winchester Mod 70 pre 64 in 30-06 with a Zeiss 3-9. The other that I use alot is a Savage mod 99 in 300 savage with an old simmons scope.
Tikka T3 Lite in 338 Federal or Tikka T3 Lite in 300WSM both with Nikon Buckmaster 3x9 x50
Using 200 Grain Hornady softpoints in 338 Federal and 165 Hornady SST in 300 WSM.
