From the Costa Cruise Line ticket contract:

"In the interest of international security and safety at sea, and in the interests of the convenience of other Passengers, the Passenger hereby agrees and consents to a reasonable search being made of the Passenger’s person, baggage or other property, and stateroom, and to the removal and confiscation or destruction of any object which may, in the opinion of the Carrier, impair the safety of the Vessel or comfort or convenience of other Passengers.

"The Passenger is forbidden to bring onboard the Vessel live animals (except assistance animals), inflammables, firearms, ammunition, explosives, illegal drugs, or other potentially harmful or dangerous weapons, substances or materials. The Passenger further agrees that no alcohol purchased or obtained ashore may be brought onboard the Vessel. The Carrier reserves the right to refuse to permit the Passenger to take onboard any additional item it deems inappropriate.

Well, I know one cruise ship skipper who would have been going home in a body bag if I'd been a passenger with a gun watching him run for the lifeboats while children were still left on board. That jerk is a waste of oxygen! It is hard to imagine how someone who could make so many stupid mistakes so fast could ever get a license to drive a bicycle let alone a craft with thousands of people in his care. He was obviously totally incompetent. I wish that cruise line luck finding another insurance carrier! And how about that Coast Guard captain. I thought he was going to have a stroke screaming at that douche bag to get back on board where he belonged. Boy, he didn't mince the words!

OHH,
Pray tell, what possible good would come of you murdering the coward captain of the cruise ship?
BTW, I agree he's wasted humanity, but just using him for target practice solves nothing.

Of course, I was not speaking literally. Just finding a sneaky way to bring up the subject on an outdoors forum. Naughty boy!

I probably would not have shot that captain if I'd had a gun but I can tell you his life raft would have been taking on water fast, even if I'd had to go after it with a butterknife from the mess.

One of the things I dislike about international travel and one of many things I dislike about air travel. It is so easy for Americans to take their freedom for granted. Travel to the oppressive countries beyond our borders illustrates just what a great country the USA is. As comforting it is to have a pistol on the nightstand when sleeping in a strange bed, what I truly miss and reach for several times a day for simple tasks is my pocket knife.

I remember a scene from "Raiders of the Lost Ark" where Indiana Jones tosses a revolver in his luggage while packing for a flight.
Those were the days.

Har, har, har! I see on tonight's news the skipper of that liner is now claiming he left the ship prematurely because he tripped and fell in the lifeboat. Honestly, I'm not making this up! Wow! That guy is the definition of a blithering babbling idiot! Who in the world would ever put someone like that at the helm of a ship? Correction, a PASSENGER ship! That cruise company just as well throw in the towel. Their stock will be toilet paper before the month is out.
