Q:
In an earlier post today (11-19-09) I discussed meeting Wesley and his brother John on Monday. Del in Kansas has been serving as a mentor to the boys and many of the bloggers on this site have contributed hunting gear, outdoor clothing, and money to help equip these young men. See the fist post below for more information.

Wesley and John's mother has pneumonia and thier father has been laid off from work. In the earlier post I suggested that we F&S bloggers start up an effort to help the family. "Shoe Box" type Christmas Gifts or dontaions of other items and money would all be appropriate. Del in Kansas has agreed to receive these contributions and will get them to the family. Del's address is:

Del Akins

Bee, those boys really got a bang out of meeting you.

Bee, even gave the family some of his prizewinning cotton honey.

Wesley now has his own username but to my knowledge he has never posted.

I challenge each one of you to put a $1.00 bill in an envelope and mail it to Del this week. Wesley's family could have a Christmas to remember! Which one of you can't afford $1.00?

My wife Bettie suggested we get a gift card for Walmart. She said they no doubt need food and medicine. Walmart has both and there is a store about 10 miles from their home (they live out in farm country). I could buy the card or you could send one. If many people give it would probably be better if I just take the money to my local Wally and buy one card rather than delivering several, but I will do whatever you wish.
Last month I gave Wesley a Cabelas camo hunting parka so that is not a concern anymore. The boys have guns and ammo. We already bought hunting boots and knives. If you want to give the boys a gift for Christmas suggest shopping at Cabelas on-line. When I was a kid there was a few years when there was not much under the Christmas tree for me and that is something I don't want those kids to go thru.
Sorry to ramble on those are just my thoughts. My kids and grand daughter will be fine. Think most of my shopping money will go to these kids.

A Walmart card sounds good!

OK, you heroes; get off those wallets and send a buck or two! Just $1.00 or $2.00 from a lot of people will go far!
