had a german shorthair for 14 years. good hunting dog...good family companion. i helped my dad bury her.....dont think ive ever seen my dad cry like that. i know the feeling.
We had a Beagle for about 2 weeks before she had an accident and we had to bury her. I didnt know you could get so attached to anything in such a short time.
At 18 I was put to the task [like being told to take out the trash] to bury a poodle that had been with me for over half my life.Late evening on the first snow of the season. Dark, cold&damp.I made him my dog. That dog would bite my older brother on command [that's the way I remember him]
Thanks,I think about him from time to time. I just never dumb enough to tell anyone.
Yes, I buried Jesse, the best bear hound I ever had, one cold winter night, and turned away so my son didn't see the tears. Even tho he was old and in bad health and it was a blessing for him, it was still tough stuff.
when i was 12 i watched my bury his dog he had hunted bears and cats in colorado and oregon and coons missouri.i never had seen him cry like that and havent since.i see his eyes when he looks at pictures of him.he hunted that dog 3 to 5 nights a week and hasnt hada dog like him since.
I agree with jay (sorry for your loss buddy) but when we had to have my mom's beagle put down (old age) she had her cremated and put some ashes in a little canister that she wears on her key chain.
Hurts every time. I'm not looking forward with the two dogs I have now. My little sisters love those dogs. Ones getting older, so that'll be a ruff few days.
A good dog becomes part of the family. My family and I wept when our dog died. I wouldn't equate it to the gut-wrenching, irreplaceable loss of a child (i.e., we've gotten another dog) but it hurt. We didn't bury her, but had her cremated by Dignified Pet Services. I'm sorry you experienced that. I'm sure other dogs will have difficulty measuring up to the one you lost, but they have individual personalities and another will eventually find its way into your heart.

We are actually having our dog put down today, because he is really sick. He has two tumors and a kidney stone. It is the worst feeling ever...
It is always an occasion of profound sadness. You truly are losing a member of the family.
