Yes i have seen one. I was bow hunting in NE Michigan (lower pen.) and i thought it was a black bear until i saw the tail. It freaked me out, it was about 30 yards away, at a steady run, and i couldnt hear the steps in the leaves, those things are pretty sneaky.
I read an article about this but I can't seem to find it. If I remeber corectly they say the cats are more likley to be a panther that has some how made it into the wild or area. It also said there has been no documented cases of a truly black(melanistic) mountain lion.

I haven't ever seen one in person but I have read an article about them as well.

i aint never seen one but a friend of mine saw a black panther if that is what you are talking about
Wife and I saw one in eastern WV in '79.
I could not swear it was black, but it was dark - Archuleta County, Colorado
