Q:
how do you make a box call for turkeys??what type of wood do i use and do you have step by step directions for making them?just wanting to try it for myself and see how good they work and be able to call up a turkey with a call i made...i can do a call with my mouth tht never fails unless ive done it to the turkeys like 2 or 3 times...usually dont miss but missed a big un last spring cuz he gobbled oppps....that was the first year i dint tag one

Boy those Turkey must not ever see anybody.I can call one in with a willow leaf or a call made from a snuff box and a latex glove but not with my mouth.Go for it.I don't have an answer to homeade box but you could probabaly GoGGle it.

I can't be much help but I can tell you there are fellows who get into it big time, making hundreds of homemade calls in a lifetime.

some people collect these homemade calls.

NWTF sells a Box Call kit that you put together yourself.

You can make calls out of cherry, walnut, oak, cedar, and some exotic woods.

You can even make your own strikers for slate calls..
I've made one out of an oak dowel. I've been contemplating whether or not to put a corn cob on the end of it.

You can make them out of wing bones too from either chicken or turkey wings... Not sure what alll you need to do other than dry them out.
