You need 5 stars to be eligible; not sure how many points that is.

There is no set number, just close to the most of all users. Click on the "top users" names to the left of the screen and see what they are rolling with. Its a lot.

Check the total for beekeeper. He has been busy for a long time.

I've heard point's don't have anything to do with it .
It is participation, and quality(not quantity)of your answers.
Also check Del's, and Mr.Cooper's numbers. MAN !

I think it has to do with both the Quantity and QUALITY of your posts. Probably a judgment call by the eds.

They take the highest point users then put them into a pool and sort through there information to find the most qualified person for whatever they're testing.

Oh yeah they also look at the quality of your posts such as whether you know what you're talking about or just on here getting points for bad answers.

Don't need no stinkin' gear to test! Unless they are going to give me a big 7mm magnum to try out!

You are in a long line my friend. But you could get lucky, some of the gear testing is random and is more based on quality of answers and contribution instead of just pure answers.
