sixty five years big game, tack on a couple more for small game, fishing, and shot gunning. Hunting outside the U.S., including Alaska, 40 years. Handloading, around sixty years give or take a little. Expertise? I learn something new all the time. It has been a great trip.
I'm 63 and my first deer trip was at age 16. I've enjoyed varminting since I was 13 or 14. Handgun hunting was a passion for a while, but I haven't pursued that in some time. I've never been particularly proficient with a shotgun or bow because I'm a bit too slow and deliberate. I seem to gravitate very comfortably toward varminting, and most of my rifles are set up for that.
As Happy said, there are no expert hunters. Just the ones who have learned, and apply knowledge, skill and patience to have a greater success rate than those who do not. I have been hunting for meat for nearly 52 years, and I learn something from every hunt, and try to learn more by reading, and listening at every opportunity.
30. learned to drive the boat on lake huron at 9, I have been hooked to trolling forever! I love running long lines and down riggers!
varmit was always around to help with critter control on a more then a couple of farms and orchards.
deer, well that started innocent enough and now its a addiction, FULL blown esp. archery! Great question.

Must have been 5 when I first pulled a trigger at a range. First time out hunting with my dad and uncle when I was 6 or 7 (no gun). Hunted birds and rabbit with a slingshot and air gun until I could go hunting with a shotgun. That must have been at 12 or so. Though I remember always being able to shoot poisonous snakes with .22 shotshells. That was all several decades ago.
43 years, I'm lucky to have had the expeiences that I have had. I've hunted across most of the US for birds and big game. I always learn something new each time out. It pays to keep an open mind!
i am 18, i have been fishing since i was 7 or 8, and i have been hunting since i was 12, and hopefully will have plenty of years to come, i guess i have only been hunting independently for 3 years though.
I've been hunting on my own for 30 years if I count beginning when I was age 14, which was the legal hunting unaccompanied age in Washington State when I grew up. I had been in the field with my grandfather and great uncle beginning when I was seven or so. I started fishing on my own when I was 12, or 13 for sure as that was when I bought my first boat with my own money. We need to get more kids into the outdoors. I don't have any of my own, but next year I will begin taking out a junior hunter hopeful whose father doesn't hunt or fish. We owe it to ourselves, the future generations, and to the wildlife to pass these skills along.
Started fishing when I was about 3(37 yrs ago), Hunting if you want to call carrying a bb gun to the dove field when I was about 4 or 5 yrs old(Heh, I thought I was hunting)
I've been hunting and fishing for about 57 years now. I've been experimenting with rifle accuracy since the mid-60s and still like to target shoot and varmint hunt as much as I can in addition to all the hunting and fishing I can get in. I still fish a lot and enjoy shooting prairie dogs, antelope and coyotes as much as I do bow hunting for deer.
The amazing revelation in this thread is that there are approximately 15 people who have 30+ years of outdoor experience who can use a computer too! When we have a computer question or problem, don't we always ask the youngest person in the room for help? I guess it's a good trade-I'm happy to help younger people with hunting and fishing questions and the younger crowd seem happy to help us with our computer questions. lol
