I can understand male enhancement ads in F & S, but advertising PORN? (4th page from the back of the feb issue) You have got to be kidding me! Anybody with me?
Question by babsfish4life. Uploaded on January 25, 2010
For people that have not gotten the issue yet it is and ad for porn videos with a F&S discount code for a 50% discount. Any magazine that starts doing this stuff is a sellout in my book, even though I love F&S and will continue to keep my subscription I am disappointed none the less.
Mebbe I'm Old-Fashioned, and the majority of my years is behind me, But I thought this magazine was about hunting and fishing, not pumps and hos. I wish they would confine all thet stuff to a house of Ill Repute and let the rest of us vicariously enjoy the outdoors.
How is F&S a sell out ? Because they sell advertising to pay publishing cost and their employees ? Or is it just because they have an add for porn that makes them a sell out ?
Read my comment again Arcamedies (if you are refering to the Greek, you spelled it wrong). If my original comment doesn't answer your question read it slower, if that doesn't work have somebody else read for you.
Not edifying at all to the opposite sex, some in society have turned women into a means of seduction and entrapment. Abasing women to the lowest form possible instead of viewing women as simply a sexual thing they need to be viewed as a human being, something to be honored and respected. What happened to chivalry?
I dont particularly agree with it but it pays the bills. I would rather them sponsor fishing/hunting companies, but then again theres a lot of paperwork and contract crap involved with sponsorships. And also, if yo ratio the decent ads with the non-decent ads, they are..(im counting)120 to 4.yeah.thats what I thought.
I would rather them use other sponsors, but it pays the bills. There is a ton of paperwork on contracts involved with all the sponsor crap, so Ill keep my subscription. Its only as big of an issue as you make it. Plus, if ratio the decent to non-decent ads, they are...(Im counting) 120 to 4. Yeah. Your cancelling from four little ads in the back of the book? Just dont read the ads.
I've enjoyed F&S my whole life. If they keep it up, I won't buy it. I'm not a prude but feel that this isn't the place for it. If they can't stay in business as a reputable sport hunting and fishing magazine, let them become a porn magazine. Just don't expect hunters and fishermen to buy it.
Don't read the back pages if you don't like it! Would you rather pay higher subscription prices? That's what it's all about, money, all you do-gooders. Go to church, cheat on your wives and then yell about the magazine adds in the back of your ex-favorite mag. What phonies.
It's just like watchin tv in the middle of the day when soap operas and talk shows are on most channels. What ads do you see? Tampons, diet gimics and birth control pills. Why? Because women are watching! F&S readers are more than likely 99% men. It's the same thing, although advertising porn in a magazine that has many young readers may be a little inapropriate. I can live with it more than I can paying $10 an issue.
happy to be a so called do gooder thier JIM if thats refering to some one that go's to church
and i would be happy to pay more to keep that crap out of field & stream . i dont want my grils to pick up my magazine in my home and see that type of things
but thats me
I don't like them being there, my daughter is grown but when she visits we talk hunting and she sometimes looks though the magazines.I don't want her to think that's what other men that hunt are about. She sees enough of that with out seeing it in something I read.Yes some of us still go to church and read the Bible because thats what God wants, most that do don't cheat on their wife.We don't always DO GOOD but we generally DO BETTER than those that set the bar so low.JIM you might run 5miles aday and work out every mornning,I don't do that even though it would be better for me.But I don't run down those that choose to do better than I.Seems to me we all should try to do GOODER.
I'm disappointed with it but I also understand the economics of it. Agreed with Bee in disappointment that we're automatically associated with such things.
like beekeeper said its about marketing, and based on statistics the readers of this magazine, and others similar to it are in the percentile that the ad/product will mostly appeal to.
Like Beekeeper said, they are just pandering to a prime revenue demographic. According to published statistics, between 54 and 75 percent of you view porn regularly. Those are not my numbers. Look it up for yourself.
That is why many are not offended by this. IMO, nobody makes you look. If you have small kids, tear out those pages or drop your subscription and write F&S and tell them why. Me, I'm going to ignore the ads and keep reading as long as the outdoor content is satisfactory. We have to keep Petzal employed somehow, else he will be on the taxpayer's dole...
Just ignore the adds, if you don't want children to see them, that is why they make scissors or paper cutters. Easy to get them out of your magazines. Its what I do.
If you want F&S to stop putting that crap in their mags then send them the message. Don't say "Well, I don't like it, but that's life." That's not a message. It's a cop-out. Life is what we make it.
When I was growing up every month I looked forward to the day when my dad's American Rifleman magazine came in the mail. It was full of all kinds of interesting stuff. Then after Kennedy was shot they got into the 2nd Amendment crusade and that gradually took over the publication. Final straw for me was when they started marketing phoney cancer insurance. Pulled my subscription and told them why. They gave me the old song and dance that they needed to scam to make the money needed to keep the crusade going.
If I see porn ads up on this forum, I'm outa here. Not a crucifix waver or anything like that. But I am a decent person.
Jim in MO... I don't think that church attendance or cheating on my wife factors into the equation here. I like to have F&S lying around the house so I can read it and I also go through it with my grandaughers and neighbor kids that have shown an interest in hunting and fishing. I personally feel that I should not expose them to that stuff and I feel very comfortable voting with my dollars. There are other magazines and other ways to teach them. I just stick with my principles and if the rest of the world has a different opinion, that is their right. I love free enterprise.
I agree Honker, I have written a letter to the editor. They can keep running the male enhancement and high-fence hunting ranch advertisements, that is business I understand. It is just one ad, the first they have done as far as I have known. If you object write them (fsletters@bonniercorp.com) if you don't care then don't.

I like your style, and read your comments with interest, but now see what you have done? You will have 43 liberals writing nasty things to you about freedom of speech and free enterprise, all the while petitioning their congressmen to remove The Ten Commandments from their local courthouse.Rock on lady, and thank you for providing the link. They will get an E-mail from me.

That address is the F&S editors, I would never put my email on here. I don't want to even know how many people hate me on here (archimedes, wolf lover, amusbuster, julie, all the ss's to name a few). And I'm not a lady, babs has significance with my last name, no offense taken, just want to clear that up.
What would be the difference that makes male enhancement ok and "marital aids" not...at least the marital aids work so someone that chooses to use the discount is not getting bolked out of money (no I have not tried the enhancement just using common sense) So as far as I care let them make money
I don't buy many magazines. I try to conserve paper and the fuel spent hauling them all over the country. I do not buy tabloid stuff. That junk is a waste of wood. If F&S wants to lower itself to tabloid levels - i.e. advertising male enhancement snake oil and porn sites - then they can count me out. Very sad to see this once great magazine stooping to this.

It is unfortunate but our demographic group is indicated as a market for the material, therefore the ads. F&S is paying the bills.
Having read this magazine since I was a young boy I think it's tacky, at best.

I make sure that I am the first to go the mag to remove those adds before my son sees it.
on another note I'm sure 50% who have look at those adds have ether thought about going there or have.
Haha no kidding, Jim.
Just ignore the adds, if you don't want children to see them, that is why they make scissors or paper cutters. Easy to get them out of your magazines. Its what I do.
sorry i thought the 1st didnt post.
Don't read the back pages if you don't like it! Would you rather pay higher subscription prices? That's what it's all about, money, all you do-gooders. Go to church, cheat on your wives and then yell about the magazine adds in the back of your ex-favorite mag. What phonies.
Seriously, who reads or looks at the ads? I sure as hell don't.

In reference to the question.......
What would be the difference that makes male enhancement ok and "marital aids" not...at least the marital aids work so someone that chooses to use the discount is not getting bolked out of money (no I have not tried the enhancement just using common sense) So as far as I care let them make money
That address is the F&S editors, I would never put my email on here. I don't want to even know how many people hate me on here (archimedes, wolf lover, amusbuster, julie, all the ss's to name a few). And I'm not a lady, babs has significance with my last name, no offense taken, just want to clear that up.
How is F&S a sell out ? Because they sell advertising to pay publishing cost and their employees ? Or is it just because they have an add for porn that makes them a sell out ?
