The best thing to do in that situation would be to just back out and come back in the morning with a friend or two and try to pick up the trail then. You really don't want to push a deer especially if theres not much of a blood trail. If you back out over night the deer will usually lay down and die not too far away, but if you push it you may never find it. Good luck and i hope you do find it.

First thing I do when I have to trail is to mark the impact site. Use a flag or an arrow something you can see from a little distance. If you gave him some time to bed down before you started tracking he shouldnt be too far. If you started too soon he will just get up and run. alot of the time they head in a fairly straight run. once they get their bearings. Start the trail and make sur you note where the trail goes. At 60 yards mark the last point of blood. If its a good shot there will be more blood not too far away. Start lookin for more drops. If you can see the trail he ran on follow that til you see more blood. Always keep on th elookout for him bedded down of just down and dead. Depending on the color of the blood depends where he was hit. If its real dark kida black and chunky its a gut shot. If its real red not alot of bubbles its a muscle shot. If its lighter kinda foamy or bubbly lookin its a lunger. Hope for the 3rd. If its dark kinda black give him an hour or so to bed down. Gut shots take a bit to die from hope he cramps up when he lays down! Good luck!

The most important thing, when you stick a deer with you bow is to give it time to lay down. All too often people get excited and want to go see what they got in a hurry and end up jumping the deer. If you jumped the deer, you are in for a long day. Best bet would be to head home and let it bed back down and try again in the morning. Start at the point where you last saw blood. Put a marker or flag above it then spread out looking for the next spot. Mark that one then move along to the next. It works best to have a couple other people with you. Best of luck to you!

+1's here.
Does'nt anybody use toilet paper here ? It's easily seen and will "break down" over time with no "ill effects" to the enviroment.

Yes! Ever since i was a litte kid hunting with my dad he always said, "make sure you have a good hunk on TP or paper towel in your pocket when you go hunting. You never know, you might get a runny nose, you might have to take a dump, and maybe you shoot a deer and you can mark the blood trail with it." haha i have never heard of anyone else using it.

Get the hell out there and track harder. Get some good flashlights, and get on your hands and knees. If only I could be everywhere. Dogs would be out of business.

I would be searching really hard, but sounds as if you should've given it some more time to lay there, could've been a non-vital hit so definetely another shot would work good.
