Q:
I'm often stuck in deep thoughts while roaming the woods these days...and I also love quotes that have to do with the outdoors, but instead of posting your favorites from famous writers, as we've done in the past, lets see what original quotes you can come up with.....maybe I'll send an autographed copy of the Field and Stream I'm in, to whomever gets the most votes for their quote....

"If only a person was granted enough time to follow each trail...in life and the forest...unfortunately we must choose only a few paths, from the multitude of choices, and make the best of those we travel"
Friends are the pearls of life. Real, honest, true friends shine like diamonds in the sun.
(Says to anti hunter) "I didn't climb to the top of the food chain to eat carrots."
"Did I turn off the coffeepot?"
My dad to me after a ruffed grouse flushed when I just got my license. It was slow and going straight away from me a very easy shot I didn't even shoulder my shotgun: "Why didn't you shoot?"
Me:"That was so beautiful!" I was just awe struck by the bird flying away into the fall leaves in mid Michigan that I forgot what I was out there to do. In the end I did do what I wanted to do that day. I enjoyed the great outdoors and all of the beauty it has. That is my favorite memory of the outdoors ever.
not a great quote but a great memory.
oh and there is also the world famous: "G** D***** (insert dogs name)"
"I've been to a bunch of rodeos, a dozen county fairs, two hog callin's, and a mule pullin', and I still haven't heard bullsh1$ like that!"
sorry to post again but WAM made me think of this one.
"This ain't my first rodeo."
Obscurity has its rewards. A good nights sleep is often worth the price of stardom...
"Summer was fun Fall is here let's go out and kill a deer!"
"just becasue im a hunter doesnt mean i dont like vegetarians thats all i eat..."
god gave you one more brain cell than he gave the cow, because he didnt want you crapping in the floor.i use this often.
"May neither drought nor rain nor blizzard disturb the joy juice in your gizzard!!!And may you camp where wind won’t hit you, where snakes won’t bite and bears won’t get you"!!!
"An adventure is simply a well planned trip gone awry"!!!
"Billy missed again!" "I didn't miss i was shooting at that tree!"
The season is not over till its over.
Some times getting lost in the words are the best days!
Sometimes getting lost in the woods are the best days!!
A wise old family friend told me when our son was born, "Take your kids hunting and you won't have to go hunting for your kids".

When I need an answer to one of life's many problems, I go to the silent places that I know so well, away from the concrete pavement to the bowels of my inner sanctuary.
A few deer seasons ago, I wrote down my thoughts sitting beside an 'ol cemetary, that wasn't on the National Register. My wife was contemplating d-i-v-o-r-c-e, it felt as if something was dieing and with pencil and paper, here are the words. The pencil seemed to be on automatic pilot.
As I sit and wonder where the wind comes from, I must ask, "where does it go?" Perhaps it's not for me to know.
Words dilute the beauty and essence,of this day as I sit and ponder ... life, love,or the lack of it, and death; when will it come? It's too late for these people, for who can tell their story?
I must guard my heart.
I believe that the power that resides in me will provide me with endlessly bountiful and infinitely creative resources, to help me to achieve what I must learn and accomplish through this experience of isolation from the woman I love.
I do not believe that I must do this by myself and I will not be overwhelmed less I stop before I start. I know it is easier to complain than to do something about it. When I do, I hinder and stifle the power, the plans and lose sight of the narrow path I am compelled to stay on.
I must keep the harsh inner critic silent or it's voice will undercut and I will begin to doubt myself. I know that doubt causes me to drift away from the presence of Light.
The "inner judge" voices my fears from the depths of darkness. It conveys that somehow I am not good enough in some way. I must learn to listen with compassion, knowing that it is a side of me that still is not healed.
As the brisk cool winds of fall blow across my face, they bring to mind a word of hope.
The Power, The Plan
"For I know the plans that I have for you..."
When the answer comes I know I will feel open, warm, reassured and full of peace. If I become confused I must press in and exercise patience and become quiet, wait and pray, for that is why I'm in this cemetary today.
Meditate, until I become aware of an answer that is both loving and encouraging, practical and wise.
I must not cast aside the communication that informs me of my mission in life or I will not be fully contributing my gifts and my uniqueness that makes me who I am. The puzzle will never be solved until I offer my piece/peace.
My heart is a "Truth Meter" and will indicate to me the direction I must go and if I am making the best decisions for my life path.
Every experience will help me toward what I have come here to learn.
I know that there is a power that operates within me and around me, and it shines its light on my being. If I trust it, I know I will not be led astray and I know that anything that stirs my soul, impossibilities vanish...
Reflecting on what I had written, I soon realized that when I get to the "impossible", that is when victory seems nearest. For what seems "impossible" for man, is only possible through a living, loving Father that welcomes this prodigal son back, to the loving embrace of home.
Heaven never seemed so close as now.
Thanks idahooutdoors, for bringing back a memory of victory.
Here's one from the Northern Rockies, "Sunburn today, frostbite tomorrow".
Looks like Beekeeper, squirrelgirl, spartan88, and shawey90 has the most vote so far!!!
it is nice to see the votes I have. IMHO I really just hope that people can relate to my little story. The outdoors are so beautiful and really make you appreciate life and what you have been lucky enough to experience.
like a hair in a biscuit,,,,,were hangin in there.
Gun money is not "spent." Is is "invested."
"I swear it was this big!!!"
Very Nice 2poppa
idahooutdoors- looks like a 3 way tie!
If I win I'd like to frame that autographed copy, it's a little bit of history.
I am with you on that squirrelgirl. Not only would it be the first thing I ever won, but it would be one of the most little known pieces of history the world will ever know about. One of those things that in 30 years someone sees and says "wow I remember that! What a great day for wolves AND hunters!"
squirrelgirl You get a +1 from me because since you thought of the framing it first, I think you deserve to win!
p.s. idaooutdoors if you had a copy of yourself hugging your wolf I'd really like to see a copy of that, it's the best picture I've seen of your kill yet. thank you.
