Q:
I'm starting to loose focus on work and everything else as my opener for Elk and Deer is 68 hours away...anyone else get this way right before season??? Like a kid waiting for Christmas...and it just gets worse the closer it gets.....always feel like a Football player waiting for kickoff at the Superbowl.....2 months of stalking the forest with my rifle and best gear.....time will be spent with good friends testing ourselves, and living out new hunting stories for future telling......game on!!!!!

Idaho, Yeah, i get the same way. My archery opened Sat. Unfortunately my neck of the woods is a bit more urban than yours, I still get excited about heading afield. Today it's blowing 20-30 but i'm still considering goin out! Good luck on you hunts.

that is still the best part of hunting for me. I'll be entering my 45 year in the woods come Saturday. Muzzleloader in hand I'll be enjoying the sights and scents of a fall afternoon. Who cares if the deer cooperate!

Good luck Wolfman!

Never did hear back from you...

You bet idaho. I just got back to work from a 5 day hunting trip. I got a nice bull(pic on my profile.) but I haven't filled my deer tag yet. Hunt camp is the best part of the year...better than christmas for me. I'm back to work now but my mind is thinking about friday night when I get out of here and head out looking for a deer. It's just part of the fever i guess. Good luck hunting everybody.

Elmer...Elk last about a month, but whitetail goes until December 1st in some units...a few muzzleloader hunts go into December...but we have Waterfowl and some upland birds until Jan 1st, along with predator hunting until march or so....

idahooutdoors, maybe I mis-understood? are you going to be off from work, in elk camp, for the entire 2 months?

No, still have to work and get the kids to school during the week...used to take almost all of it off, but being a single dad of a 3 and 4 year old put an end to that. This season I will get to hunt Fridays through Mondays, with 3 day work weeks, and will take a whole week off around Thanksgiving to hunt bucks in the snow.....unless I find a sponsor that wants a wolf mount, and will fund my hunting season along with an in camp babysiter...can always dream can't I....someday I will be in camp for the whole fall, would not mind it one bit....

You better believe I get like that! I usually get the itch in August and start shooting target practice, sharpening knives, and scouting. I can't sleep, I don't eat as much, and I spend nearly every hour of the day thinking about hunting.

I know what you mean. Spent all day today shooting AR's and muzzleloaders for my friend's at Ultracoatings inc. We have to shoot 3 in-lines 1000 times each in 3 days. The hands are getting sore from loading but it is a labor of love that will help tide me over until Nov 3 when 2 weeks of vacation kicks in to bowhunt the rut in KS and pheasant season.

Don't get me wrong, I can't wait for deer season either, but I already spent one weekend in the "duck hole." It was the special early goose and teal season in AL, so of course we were covered up in wood ducks. Saw 30 or more the first day and better than 20 the next. We had two set down in the three decoys we put out, one of them while we were just standing around in the open talking. I didn't fire a shot all weekend, but if that don't light your fire, your wood's wet.
