Q:
My son is interested in Shed Hunting in the panhandle of Texas. We have mapped out several strong areas, but we are new to this area and do not know when to start looking around. We have loads of Mule Deer near us, and have seen a couple of big boys. When can we start looking?

I'm not quite sure what your question is asking.
when ever you want there are sheds year round they loose them in spring i think
I like to look in likely bedding areas and along deer trails. Sometimes a horn will fall when a buck jumps a fence so check fence crossings. Ultimately they can be just about anywhere.
Wood, I live in Northeast Oklahoma and we have begun finding sheds in the woods already. Being that your one state south of me, I would imagine that you could start looking now and should be able to find an abundance around February and into March. But this recent warming trend might make the shed hunt a little more enjoyable than it will be in March.
Take some binoculars when shed hunting, helps cover more ground and give you a way to quick check those distant white objects. I look around fence lines, game trails, thickets and patches of honeysuckle or other vines. Look in areas where you'd expect bucks to winter in and in areas where bucks can find late season forage.
