Q:
Now here is a question for you guys. I want to ask permission to hunt some land nearby and my attempts to actually talk the landowners face to face have all failed. Is there other ways? I know there names so could I write them and explain or what? Any suggestions?

Are they listed in the phone book? I'd give them a call.

Face to face is the best way. Landowners like to know who they are talking with not just joe blow on the phone. Its easier for them to figure out who u are and harder to say no, if they think ur a trustworthy person

If calling does not work write them a nice polite handwritten letter. Explain who, what, where, when and why. Give them your phone number and ask them to call you at their leisure. Include a self addressed stamped envelope if you want a written reply. That would give you written permission if the game warden asks.

Honestly, face to face is the best. If you cant call, but here is my reasoning. If you were a landowner do you want to give sombody who is mature and will handle tough situations with no probs? yes. So a landowner will look upon you better if you be mature about it. thats just the way i see it.

Face to face is by far the best way. I wouldn't really recomend doing anything else to be honest.

i guess it depends on the area. around me you can call anybody and ask and they will give you permission unless they hunt it or somone else has asked first you just need to promis not to shoot the cows. I guess it helps that i know most everybody in the area and if i dont the know my parents

Face to face is the best, but going against the garin here. I say send them a letter saying that you would like to call them to set up a "face to face" meeting with them. Include # of years hunted, Hunter safety card info. phone number, people who will vouch for your chariter, etc ...
It's worked for me in the past.
Oh, don't forget to offer to help with "chores" for permission !

I believe a letter will be more effective than a phone- call, although a bit slower. Personally i don't like strangers calling me. Perhaps in your letter you leave your phone number.
