Q:
Shane! Over the months that i've been on this website and have been sharing and taking information from everyone, i've noticed that you almost ALWAYS recommend a Marlin rifle. I'm not at all saying there is anything wrong with that. But what is it that makes you recommend the Marlin rifles? What do you like about Marlin rifles? Anybody else that wants to chime in and tell about why you like Marlin rifles, go ahead.

I'm with Shane on this. I love Marlins because I love lever-guns. I love Marlin lever-guns because they are the best. They are the best because the are easy to mount a scope on. They are very accurate. They are very durable and don't have any small internal parts to brake. They are strong and can handle HOT lpads. They are great deer guns (it's what I use.) They are pretty inexpensive compared to other leading brands. And well I just like them because I like guns!

The Marlin bolt action rifles shane recommends are widely praised for their accurracy in an affordable rifle. I have no experience with them but have heard a read a lot of good things. The marlin .22's i have used are good guns too.

It's because of the times. Everyone needs a bolt action rifle, but not everyone can afford one, especially lately. Now just about anyone can. You can have one for about 300 bucks, and it will outshoot rifles costing twice or even triple this in many cases.

I thought I wouldn't be buying any new rifles this past year, but after seeing the ridiculously low price tag and reading endless glowing reviews with tiny groups, I just had to see for myself.

This was compounded by the fact that I read Petzal's review of the 200 dollar Nikon Buckmasters. A Petzal approved rifle/scope package for barely over $500? How could I say no?

You can hardly get a decent rifle for 500 bucks, but now we have the Venture, and there's also the $399 Weatherby Vanguard deal.

I would have went with that, but am unnerved by the fact that they take out the Sub MOA Vanguards and sell them for way more. Does this mean the rest of them won't shoot under an inch? They guarantee 1.5 inch groups or better, but my XL7 will shoot everything under that, many loads Sub MOA, and for 100 dollars less.

If I knew everyone had plenty of money, you probably wouldn't hear this from me. I would be recommending the new M70s, Sakos, Remingtons, Savages (especially the Classics and the varmint and target rifles) and Weatherbys.

I have a Marlin 336 in 30-30 and find this to be a smooth working and very accurate rifle. The obvious advantage over the Winchester lever rifle is the ease of scoping. For the range I shoot, you can't ask for a better rifle and cartridge combo.
