But their actions saved the life of pilot Mike Durant, though he was held hostage for eleven days. Shughart's father, sister and widow unveiled the paver, which summarized Shughart's actions in Somalia. None of the family members spoke during the ceremony or during an emotional rendition of taps. "Whatever we say and do today with this, stone will be inadequate to reflect his service", said Brigadier General Michael S. Repass, commander of the Special Forces. "But it is what we can do, and it is here with his brothers, in this community".
