Damn right kolbster. If he comes into my house he IS a threat to my family, I don't care if he is armed or not. I have a friend that's an officer of the law, and he told me that you have every right to protect your family and your home( just make sure he's in the house where the cops get there, even if you have to drag him back in).
If your state has passed castle doctrine legislation, a burglar can be considered a threat by virtue of having entered. CHECK YOUR LOCAL LAWS FOR SPECIFICS--end disclaimer. My state (Ohio) only recently passed that law, until then you were legally under the duty to retreat. Shooting a guy and dragging him back in is gonna be tampering with evidence at the bare minimum, and to the right prosecutor or jury, evidence of premeditation...baaaaad juju. Anyhow, for me, if you break into my house while I'm there, you're gonna get carried out.
I would state to not move and that I had a gun. If he advanced then I would shoot. But if he goes to run out the door then I am not going to shoot a guy in the back.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Now I can answer your question, because I am still alive. I would shoot first and ask question later. My family and my life is more valuable to me than a robber's. Sorry that might sound cold, but I'm here to protect the ones I love at all costs.
rrmont, that is quite possibly the dumbest and most irresponsible thing I have ever heard. Drag the body back in? You moron there's something called forensic scientists and they're not dumb.
It is at night. As soon as I am positive he is not a drunken relative, I kill said intruder. I am not a trigger happy sort, but if someone forces his way into my house, he's done himself wrong.
First of all hunt-fish, I was repeating what I was told by a police officer.
Second if your grades are slumping, as you stated, maybe you should spent alittle more time on your school work and less time on the computer.
rrmont, I am doing my graduation project on Crime Scene Investigation. My mentor is our towns Senior Criminal Investigator. These people are not the dudley do-goods you seem to thing they are. Investigators actually have degrees. Of course some mindless patrolman would tell you that, he has no clue how law enforcement handles anything but traffic violations. You would get caught, but since you seem to thing that it is such a great idea, try it. I'll visit you in prison and say I told you so.
Easy to say you would just blast someone, could be hard to live with after the fact. Unless you know the intruder is armed and an immediate threat you may want to: Identify your target, tell them to freeze and comply with demands, find out their intentions, call law enforcement. You don't want to accendently shoot a realative, or someone who is not there to do you any harm. Recently a car went into the river, a passenger ran to a nearby business, and broke out a window to get to the phone to call for help. The business owner who lived out back heard the noise and confronted the individual, if he would have just shot first he would have killed a guy trying to save his buddies. I also would rather let an intruder flee if he does not want to fight, I don't need to kill some young guy who has made some bad life decisions just because he wants my dvd palyer. If you know for sure you or your family are threatend, and there is no way out of the situation without using deadly force, then by all means do what you must. If it truely came down to kill or be killed and that line was crossed, I then would have no problem meeting an act and/or threat of violence with uttermost furry and fatal intent.
Uh, rrmont, You never should drag a criminal any where. IF you do so you risk becoming just as criminal as them.
Now, if i were confronting a criminal i would make sure i knew who it was, hen tell him i was armed, and if he moved i would shoot. I would not try for sure to kill him, but injure him, then call the police. Then again i might panic and run out the back door with my parents and sister.
Depends on what state I am in at that point. Texas i shoot. MA...I put the gun down because it will somehow be a felony to even have it pointed at someone even though I legally own it.
Seriously, the instructor of the firearms course I took there told everyone in the class we would be better off to have mace instead of a firearm. This is due to the states overly intense gun laws.
I got in on this post a day late so I'm not gonna read all the posts cause I know what most will say.
If someone breaks into my home I'm not concerned if they are armed. In my mind they Are armed. They are here to do no good. Flight is no option. Give 'em both barrels so to speak. Show no mercy, no warning, strike. That's what I'd hope to do to the bastards, at that point I'm not concerned about the police or what they may say. That person broke into my house.
I don't know if it's true but I've heard of people being sued by an intruder when they were injured and the intruder won the suite. We've had some break-ins in my neighborhood so I've got a 20 guage pump ready with my 9mm as back up. If you break into my home where I, my wife and three children are I assume you are there to do us harm and dead folks can't sue you. If I am going to shoot anyone in self defense I will always shoot to kill.
If they have the tv or something else that belongs to you in their hands, tell them to set down--NOW!!!!-- THEN CALL THE COPS---OTHERWISE IF THEY ARE NOT STEALING ANYTHING YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO SHOOT THEM. Don't shot to wound, shoot, to kill. To many lawyers running around waiting for the chance to defend the poor criminal who was just doing his thing. Don't forget there may be more than one---so be alert. Keep track of where you are and protect your back.
The biggest legal thing is, regardless of where they are, is that they have to be a threat. Current threat.
There's been a few cases that have ( justifiably? ) put people in jail...
For whatever reason he's in your house, and HASN'T harmed anyone, and he turns around and runs, you will go to jail if you shoot them in the back. There is no legal defense for that.
But forget the movie and TV trash... it will be hard enough during the adrenaline rush to hold a gun steady. There's pretty much no chance to wound, or shoot the weapon out of his hand, or any other John Wayne things you've watched.
So if you or your family are threatened, and yelling does not dissuade or scare them, and they will not leave or stop, you want to just aim dead center mass and try to hit the biggest target you can.
If it was a pump i would shoot but a single shot I dont know. i would still go after him. but I wouldnt shoot him if he was running. but if I had a pump, lets just say I would need to buy more ammo after that.
Announce myself from cover & concealment. Instruct him to lie face down on the floor immediately. Any action to the contrary and he gets every round in the gun.
In fact, my home got broken into last month and my wife was home that day. They try to come in on broad day light at 1:00 pm. My wife shoot first, ask the questions later. The perpetrator got scared and run away!!!!!!!She report it to the law.......
Shoot him. Make it a good shot and he aint movin afterward. If you happen to just wound him then there's a chance he'll get some lawyer that will defend him and with todays justice system you'll probally get sued for bodily injury or something. And then if he does live and is convicted then were stuck supporing him during his jail time.

If your state has passed castle doctrine legislation, a burglar can be considered a threat by virtue of having entered. CHECK YOUR LOCAL LAWS FOR SPECIFICS--end disclaimer. Shoot him. Make it a good shot and he aint movin afterward. If you happen to just wound him then there's a chance he'll get some lawyer that will defend him and with todays justice system you'll probally get sued for bodily injury or something. And then if he does live and is convicted then were stuck supporing him during his jail time.
half the time if you just make the shuck shlick noise they freak and run away but definitly dont be afraid to shoot
He would weigh more and die of lead poisoning
If he had the nerve to come in then he's not just coming in to say "hi" so shoot!
Damn right kolbster. If he comes into my house he IS a threat to my family, I don't care if he is armed or not. I have a friend that's an officer of the law, and he told me that you have every right to protect your family and your home( just make sure he's in the house where the cops get there, even if you have to drag him back in).
Plant a shell in his leg, then tell him to get out, and say the next one is a slug aimed at his head.
First of all hunt-fish, I was repeating what I was told by a police officer.
Second if your grades are slumping, as you stated, maybe you should spent alittle more time on your school work and less time on the computer.
i would shoot then ask questions later.
