Q:
What would be the best turkey calls (slate and box) for a beginner turkey hunter? I just want to know what to ask for this Christmas. Thanks.

The easiest calls are the push-button calls, and they actually work pretty well.

Stick with the slate or glass calls as a beginner. They are simple to learn to use and easy to maintain. They allow you to make all the useful sounds of the turkey hen. The cluck and purr are the two most useful of these and are easy to reproduce on such calls. With a selection of different pegs you can sould like a flock of differnt turkeys. They also require very little hand movement to use. Merry Christmas!
