Breeds that do not shed hair are supposed to be hypoallergenic. Poodles, Yorkies and Silky terriers fall in that category, but I don't know if they are really safe for people with respiratory allergies.

Poodles where originally water retrievers and they have hair not fur which is more allergy friendly.

Yorkies and Poodles are good for people who have allergies... But I would take the person around a few of the dogs just to make sure.

If you like large Dogs look at Labs, but they do shed from summer to winter.

Check out the wire-haired Griffon too, I read and heard good things about this dog concerning those who suffer from allergies. I understand they are also great dogs for field and home. Some folks think they're homely, I've seen a few and both were very friendly and well-mannered, that trumps looks in my mind.
