Stevens pays Angel Eyes to kill Baker instead of him, Angel Eyes kills them both. Baker is the man that was shot through the pillow, in a cave I believe.
It's his adobe bedroom, which is basically a cave. Because you see, once he's paid, he always sees the job done...you know that.

It's a memory thing. One of my favorite movies.
