That is how you decrees the distance to your target and when you pull the trigger you move your head back quickly, don't you know that!

Yup...it's usually caused when your cheek isn't firmly planted on the stock when aiming. Try lower scope mounts so your cheek stays on the stock.

Ya today I shot my Remington 700 in 7mm .08 and had my head a little too close to the scope and got a big 'ol gash on my forehead that I needed stitches for.

cool, i have a rem 700 in 7mm-08 also, but never had a problem with that, but the first time i shot a .270 wsm, it caught me off guard, and yup, cut me right in between the eyebrows.

I wear eyeglasses, and I've had them pushed back pretty hard against my nose. But no cuts, probably thanks to the glasses. The first time was with a .375 H&H Magnum and the second time was with a 7mm Remington Magnum.

First time I shot a shotgun when I was 10 I laid my face on the stock to look down the barrel. The back of the barrel took a nice chip out of my face below my eye. My uncle couldn't stop laughing, my family is really nice that way.

Lying prone I shot a huge Boar Hog about 300 yds.
Got just a little too close and got a nice cut. Scar is there to this day. Every time I see it I think of that big ole hog!! A friends girlfriend had a huge black eye just a few weeks ago from a 300 Win Mag scope punch!!

Anjadams,
ya I know, it never happens to me if i'm kneeling, sitting, or shooting free hand. It's as soon as I go in the prone position or use some kind of rest other than my knee that it happens.

Last year during turkey season my uncle bought on of those small cammaras that attach to your scope and takes a video. Well he put a riflescope on my shot gun with the cammera. He warned me the turkeys would look closer...obviosly. I shot at a turkey while it was still out of range, and it started to run. I went to take a quick follow up shot and forgot that I had to shoot it like a rifle not a shot gun. The scope broke my nose and left a nice cut.

Recently saw it happen to someone shooting a .338 Lapua -not pretty!

I have been bumped, but not cut or hurt. I took that as a gentle reminder to not lean in too much, and to make sure the scope is mounted right for the person shooting.

That's one common injury I've been able to avoid---had the scope click against my glasses, but no cuts. Yet.

Just had that happen on Monday. I had never shot with a scope before. My dad built me a great rifle...I just have to learn not not put my face so close! lol I have a gash below my right eyebrow. It bled something fierce! If I would have gone to the ER, I probably would have had stitches. Luckily, my cousin knew what to do and he bandaged me up good. It looks terrible and is starting to bruise, but it's healing well. My dad calls it my red badge of courage. I am the only girl that hunts in my family...I guess maybe that's why! LOL
