I bet you have chiggers! not ticks. I have never had a tick I couldnt see anymore, no matter how small.
Web MD dot com says:
"Chiggers are tiny mites that live in areas with grass or brush. Chiggers, also known as red bugs or harvest mites, usually cannot be seen without a magnifying glass.
Chiggers attach to skin pores and feed on skin cells for a few days, most often in the warm creases of the body. In the United States chiggers do not cause any diseases; however, some types of chiggers in Asia and the Pacific carry a disease called scrub typhus.
Chigger bites can result in:
* Intense itching at the bite site beginning a few hours after the bite. Itching may be at its worst on the second day and may last for days or weeks.
* A raised bump that gets bigger over 24 to 48 hours and may be present for up to 14 days.
* Less commonly, fever and a rash.
Home treatment can help relieve itching. The mites will fall off the body within a few days."
we used to use fingernail polish to suffocate them. they really itch.
Ticks dont fly, jump, or drop from trees. They inhabit shrubby vegetation (nymphs: 4-6" vegetation; adults: waist-high vegetation) and wait fr an animal to brush by. They then grasp the animals fur or skin, and typically crawl up the leg. Ticks will wander on the body for 30-60 minutes before they insert their mouthparts and begin to feed. Infected Deer Ticks must feed for at least 12 - 24 Hours before they can begin to transmit the Lyme Disease bacteria. Therefore you should remove ticks as soon as possible. Take a shower after outdoor activity and check your body thoroughly, paying close attention to the armpits, the groin, and neck. Use the buddy system! Look for ticks every night, especially if you have young children.
rocky mountain spotted fever is even worse, but generally you hear of cases in your area to worry about that
Elmer is on target does not sound like you have ticks.
Get sulfur from a pharmacy and mix some into vaseline or a thick hand cream. Spread on the bites this will kill the chigger and its eggs under your skin.
Some ticks are very small not much bigger than a chigger. My son got them all over him once when he was a kid. We washed him down with alcohol and picked them off with tweezers. There was a tiny tick in the middle of every red spot on him.
I reccommend a little metal dingus called a tick removal key. This implement has a tick sized aperture with a "v" shaped notch. You place the hole over the tick and orient the key so the mouth parts catch in the notch, then you gentle pull and remove the tick head and all. Tick keys are small enough to fit on a key ring, right next to your p-38 can opener.
I've heard reports that, in N.C., lots of folks in some areas have non-symptomatic cases of Rocky Mountain Spotted.
Bella thanks for the tip on that tick key went the their site tickkey.com looks pretty darn slick. I'll be giving one a try.
I like the advice on here... all good, but I have a dirty mind and can't help myself~
If all these suggestions fail, you can try the old remedy for crabs: Shave half the area that is affected, then light the other half on fire. When they crawn out where you can see them, stab them with an ice pick!
Okay, its corney, but I still laugh every time I hear it! Hope you laugh too!
