I use Permanone or Duranon sprayed onto my clothing and socks for ticks, it is odorless when dry. Do not apply this to your skin.

About two weeks prior to a hunt in tick country, I will spray down the clothes I intend to hunt in, including socks. I use a tick repellent that is not recommended to spray on bare skin. (.5% Permethrin, made by Buggspray) Then I bag all the changes of clothes in Zip-lock bags. The morning of the hunt, I spray my boots with the same repellent. I have had good success with this method, but don't forget your Vaseline, tweezers and Campho Phenique. There has not been a 100% effective prevention for ticks yet discovered by man!

The Duranon and Permethrine repellants work well in my experience. I also check myself after every hunt and have my wife double-check. Under Armour or similar skintight underwear helps as well. Short hair makes detection easy.

Wash with Ivory soap and as you spray your cloths, roll up your pants cuffs and spray the inner part of your pants leg at least 5 inches and upper boats and socks. Most important, as soon as you get home, take a good shower and scrub yourself really good. The sooner you scrub down, the less likely they will be washed off before anchoring in.

By the way, Chiggers don't drink blood. These mites actually inter a hair follicle and inject saliva that solidifies skin tissue and suck it up! That is why it itches like hell! If you get a good dose of Chiggers, go to the community pool and swim for an hour or two. Not only it drowns and the chlorine kills the little jokers, it eliminates the excruciating itch!

Permethrin a neurotoxin, kills those critters instantly and is absorbed thru human skin so be careful using it!

I hose down w/maximum strength bug spray, but those little bastards just love me. As soon as I break a sweat hiking, bam, they attack. The person who comes up w/ a sure-fire way to repel ticks is gonna be rich, very rich. And they'll deserve every penny.

I wear rubber boots, slap cedar boughs against my pants legs and back. I think the cedar smell keeps mosquitos and ticks off. I dont wear any spray as most of my forest treks are into my prime deer areas. I leave my foot ware out side and wash my cloths as soon as I get home to kill any bugs that have hitch hiked. To remove any seed ticks that may have attched to my legs or elsewhere, I'll take strips of duct tape and run the tape up and down my skin till all the creepy crawlers are gone.
