I have Remington 870 Express Magnum with a 20" barrel and improved cylinder. Would this work for pheasant hunting and what kind of spread will i get

it'll be a fairly wide pattern usually best for heavy cover.

It'll be a wide spread because of the choke and short barrel combination. If hunting pheasant, buy a full choke for them and the gun will do fine. Remington chokes can be found everywhere.

Sorry charlie... that is not too good for pheasants. A modified choke would normally be the minimun and I hunt with a full choke (wild pheasants after about the second week of season often get up at 40-60 yards in South Dakota). That home protection barrel isn't good for much hunting other than quail. You might consider dropping a different barrel on it for hunting that allows choke tubes or at least a modified choke. If you must shoot it at pheasants, I would suggest #4 shot so that if you hit them with only one pellet, it will drop them and you may need a dog to find them because they won't have enough pellets in them to stop them from running most of the time.
