Question by tightliner09. Uploaded on February 09, 2010
been trying to join the marine corps for about a year, unfortunately i have psoriasis and waiting for meps to clear my prescreen. who knew it was so hard to join the military?
The Army is the way to go with the Marines a close second.....Most people would pay money to do some of the things we do....I am always glad to see people serve their Country be it Army, Marines, Coast Guard, Navy or Air Force
Huntr3 good luck in joining. I did 4 years in the USMC and 2 tours in the sand box and had a great time. I had some good times and some bad times but I'm glad I served!
My oldest son is in the DEP for Air Force. Not sure when he'll head to San Antonio. I'm grateful to all who have served no matter what branch! They all do a part to keep me free!!
I think the -1 are from folks who are differing on brand names.. to bad, I worked with some JSOP folks and that was some fun stuff! Joint Special OP's.
I hope of you who plan to join do well , I did 27 years in the Army and only retired because I was getting pretty old. If I could I would still be there (Or Would have before last year anyway ;)
I don't think anyone is giving -1 because of differing services..Most anyone that has been deployed and conducted joint ops has respect for each other...a little harmless joke here or there but thats about it nowadays
hengst...thats why we're a band of brothers.. we have to stick together and keep an eye out for the devil dogs and their squids. They multiply rapidly Leathernecks and Seaman sounds like a bad x rated movie. All in fun guys...all in fun...
hold on guys i aint no seaman i am an airman(naval aviation)i am currently training at nas pensacola fl.i am supposed to chase wires in aircraft but so far all ive done is clean the barracks. and thank you all
The journey of a thousand miles begins with but a single step, Tightliner, and I'd say you're off to a fine start.
I respect every man (and woman) who wears their uniform with dignity and honor. Interservice rivalry (properly channeled) brings out the best in us. Expressed poorly, it's juvenile and counterproductive. I've worked with all branches of service, and all have earned my respect...but we've ribbed each other and pulled each other's chain along the way and had reason to laugh about it.
I think all branches are well represented on this forum.

"The Marine Corps Hymn"
From the Halls of Montezuma
To the shores of Tripoli
We fight our country's battles
In the air, on land, and sea.
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
Of United States Marine.
Our flag's unfurled to every breeze
From dawn to setting sun;
We have fought in every clime and place
Where we could take a gun.
In the snow of far-off Northern lands
And in sunny tropic scenes;
You will find us always on the job--
The United States Marines.
Here's health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve;
In many a strife we've fought for life
And never lost our nerve.
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven's scenes,
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines.HOO-Rah!!!
Tightliner: You're a spark chaser that's a good job. You'll get there. It takes time everyone starts at the low end of the totem pole. We've all done our fair share of latrine (head) and barracks cleaning. You gotta go through and learn the casics on how to be a Sailor first.
When you get to your tech school guess what... School, study CLEANING and when you get to your unit... Work, Learning, CLEANING, Accountability, Tool Box inventories, and more.
Part of the job.
Do your best and you'll succeed... Be willing to learn and take initiative (not brown nose) and you will excell.
Look on the bright side tightliner-when you get to the fleet, after you clean it you get to paint it. Or as chief would tell us, if it doesn't move, it better be haze gray.

That is good advice tightliner09. I'm proud to say my 15 yr old has joined ROTC and it will hopefully carry him into a career in the military.
