Ask him to go hunting perhaps? Nothing will be more rewarding than being with you when you get your first deer with your new gun.

On your first kill have someone take a picture of your kill and the gun. Get it delvoped to an 8x10. I would a store that you can make your pics from a scanner, like when you options of the shade, color, border and so on. Myself I would get a nice picture blow it up to an 8x10, and put somewhere on the pic put the date of the kill, and thanks uncle ken or whatever his name is.

For example: 10/22/2009 Thanks Uncle (name) without you this would not be possible!

LesserSon has it right. Do everything he said plus go hunting with him as much as possible. Invite him on some hunts.

I think a gift of a gun in many cases is a blatant plea of "I need a new hunting buddy!". Thats how I got my first gun from my uncle (I think).

Say thank you and give him a hug. As the other guys said this is a clue that he would like you to hunt with him! He is taking you under his wing, listen to him and learn from his experience!

Thank him.. Have him mentor you. Most of all take care of that gift and show that you are mature enough and responsible enough to have it.. obviously your uncle thought you were and honor him by proving him right.

Good luck, Happy shooting and enjoy it with your uncle.

As has been frequently suggested, tell him "Thank you!", but conduct yourself safely, hunt successfully, and maintain contact with him. Tell him when you practice (and include him), when you hunt, and let him know how well the rifle & scope combination performs. It's a gift that keeps on giving; just take care of it and keep him in the information loop. An uncle like that is a "keeper".
