Q:
So today our local school decided to have a public speaker. Fine, sounds like a good time killer. It was a spokesperson for PETA. Hmm, Well, fine. I respect his opinion, he and I share some views, you know, don't kick your dog, vise versa. 8th slide on his power point, and I see a picture of a deer hunter displaying his massive buck. But That wasn't my problem. I heard these words in the microphone, and couldn't believe what I was hearing. "Hunting, is murder, and it is immoral, and the closest thing to murdering a human." I stood up, and walked right out of the auditorium. When I reached the stage, on my way to the doors, I was asked this question by the speaker, "Whats wrong son, You hate hunting too?" My response to this maggot "Sir, I greatly feel you offended me, and my fellow outdoors man today. I feel your opinion is ignorant, and immoral. You support a group famous for murdering dogs and other pets, and one that associates with Terrorists, and I feel it is my right to inform you, I am a hunter, and an avid outdoors man, and I feel my 10th grade education has provided me more proper ideas, than your worthless diploma. I take your speech and presentation as a personal attack, and I am furious our school would allow such a thing. Thank you for your time, but I politely decline to continue on with this conversation. I then opened the doors, and exited the auditorium, and demanded to speak to the person who organized this event. DO you feel this was the proper way to handle this? To just protest in this way? I felt it necessary. I know it was rude, but to call me a murder, is ignorant. To call me a killer because I eat pheasant? I was furious. The school has no right to impose an opnion like that on anyone in our school, and I hope they suspend me, because I will demand they overlook this, because the school will have a lawsuit on there hands. TO force me to have to watch them call me a murder is wrong, so I used my right of free speech, and politley (albeit rude, or cruel) told the man that I disagree strongley with his statement. What say you? Would you want your kids hearing this? If I had a child, and they came home and said I was a murder because I hunt deer, I would be livid. Who allows this crap to take place in our schools? COME ON AMERICA!

alex you the right thing
did
Alex
I used to be polite and bite my tongue when some of these misguided losers had the bully pulpit but no longer. Never, in the name of political correctness, let anyone trample on your heartfelt beliefs. I applaud your stand and I'm proud of your willingness to stand by your convictions. I hope that you run into no problems with the school administration.
Good for you Alex, I think you did the right thing.
Thanks guys. I am excited to tell you, I just received a call from the superintendent of our district. A personal call, to me. He apologized to me, and said that it was wrong for the school to allow it, and the teacher that had organized it, has been punished accordingly. I thanked him, and said "Sir, I hope you don't allow this to happen again, because you never know who might be listening." And he agreed and commented how he was a hunter himself.
Alex, I'm standup aplauding!
Standing up, arrrg
Good for you! I had a teacher who was some kind of vegan or something when I was in school, she was one of my favorite teacher (I would not have a high school diploma if it wasn't for her) and she never forced her opinions on me. We discussed them from time to time but respectfully. When someone tries to force their opinions like this whether we agree with them or not it is wrong. I applaud you, and I think you handled it just fine.
good job! Good job having the guts and showing what your opinion is.
You sir, I applaud you! From each and everyone of us I thank you!
Outstanding! I would have done the same thing well maybe not as polite as you lol but none the less i applaud you for your action and encourage you to continue to fight for what you believe in. It just shows how schools are getting more and more liberal by the day its sad. Thats another reason why i am homeschooled because schools try to push you into their views and most teens havent developed enough to know to fight back and get sucked in.its a real shame. Thank you again for standing up for us outdoorsmen (and woman)! God bless
Good FOR you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
"Who allows this crap to take place in our schools?"
Alex, good question. It seems this happens all over these United States in our public schools at the discretion of paid officials.
Here's mine. Seattle, WA, 1986. I______ High School had two eight foot long tables set up in the hallway, right in front of the trophy case. My kids were in their classrooms, in attendance. The Principal was my partner that night in the gym as we were scheduled to referee a Varsity Basketball game. In those days, there were only two refs, now there are three. I just happened to drop by to see him, early in the afternoon.
The tables were in the hallway soliciting the students to get involved in discussion groups. I was troubled by the hand written signs so I stopped to ask after I had checked in at the visitors office and got my hall pass.
In short, these high school kids, who were not I_______ High School students, were asking rather delicate questions of those who might stop by, about any homosexual tendencies they may have. Or, did they know of any students with such questions!
About face, back to the Principal's office and gave him an earful. An inquiry followed that afternoon and the teacher who falsified the petition allowing the tables in the hallway, during school hours, was dismissed.
Nowadays, I suppose things are different and that sort of privacy inquiry is acceptable, but it sure as hello wasn't then and to my way of thinking, shouldn't be allowed now either in the public school system.
AP, you did absolutely the right thing today. Bravo dude.
Discretion n. 1.ABILITY TO AVOID OFFENSE the good judgment and sensitivity needed to avoid embarrassing or upsetting others.
Your District Sup't. and my kids Principal acted correctly, so there is accountability within the public school system. The problem is, obviously, that these things even happen in the first place.
Remember 15 years ago, a State Sup't of Public Instruction from the state of I______, tried to convince his districts that the Holocaust never happened. This goes on with greater frequency than we care to admit.
BRAVO! I would have liked to see the guy's face after your speech.
Well played. You should see about having the school let you do your own presentation. Education is about discourse and knowledge, not one sided opinions. It would only be the right thing to do.
I won't lie you handled a lot better than i would've granted if PETA came to my high school this time of year they'd would have found arrows in there cars as even though we weren't supposed to have our bows in our cars we did. I could see an opinionated peta wacko teacher trying to get some brainwashed schmuck to come in to talk and im glad you said something bravo.
Kudos to you.
PETA depends on people just rolling over and accepting their position. They have so many people BS'd about what they are really about. Their rant gets really weak when they are confronted with facts.
Fantastic job young man!!!! You handled it much better than I would or could. I would love to compose a letter to your schools admin. Its a good idea to see if you could have your own presentation to educate the morons on hunting. Kudos to you partner.
P.S. you should post this on backlash and blowback on the message boards.
Alex, you are wise beyond your years. I am greatly impressed with your spontaneous responce to the PETA person. Perhaps another assembly speaker could show how sportsman contribute to the healthy management of wildlife.
Well done!
I would like to think that I would have handled the situation as well as you did when I was your age, but probably not. You did absolutely the right thing and showed great personal integrity and made the correct move to demonstrate your convictions. Very well done!
Thanks guys. I felt that would be the ONLY way to handle that. Because if we got angry, and started calling names, or throwing threats, or shooting cars with bows (Flip- good way to lose your schooling, your hunting, and go to jail) it would just prove what they are trying to say. So I handled it like a reasonable person, and would have loved to state some more facts to that moron, but I held back.
there is no excuse for what your school did. i can think of hundreds of other people they could have gotten to speak there. they have no right to bring in someone who wants to insult people like us and try to impose a lifestyle on you. that was unacceptable and your school should be apologizing to you and others like you. i don't think i would have handled it as wel as you did. good job.
Alex,
I would like more information concerning the school representatives who put PETA in from of the classrooms. I feel a letter to your school is in order.
As everyone has stated great job! If every high school sophomore had that kind of integrity the teenage populace would be looked upon in a different view. you handled that conflict better than most adults I know.
we should all write a letter to alex's school!
If he feels comfortable telling us the schools email. I am definitely on board top write them a letter! Not ugly put voicing my displeasure in an articulate and amiable way.
Buck, I applaud you concern, ill post again Monday, or Tuesday with what I hear from the principal. If I feel it necessary, Ill talk to you and offer up some information. For now, I feel we have this under control, seeing as half my community is supporting my side of the argument, and I have a feeling that teacher will no longer have a job after this little experiment.

You are wise and articulate beyond your years. You made me proud. I can only imagine how proud your family must be of you. I applaud and salute you. If more American voters had your clear thinking and backbone we wouldn't be in the mess we are.
Alex,
Your story really made my day. You showed a lot of courage to stand up to that self-appointed guardian of our morals. Well done.
I hate peta they are a bunch of hipocits. PS sorry for spelling.
good job alex
I'd have been right with you on the way out. Well done.
I'm proud of you. If that would have happened to me and my friends back when we were 10th grade students, I can't say that I would have been as "nice" or "P.C' as you were. Well done young Man. You have been raised up right.
Yep thumbs up!
Well done Alex. Good for you.
